Dead Heat?

Looking at just about every poll I can find, including Nate Silver, RCP and just about everybody else, it shows Obama gradually pulling away from Romney since the conventions. Obama has gained 2-3 points and Romney has lost 2-3 points.

So how is it the Huffington Post and others are calling the campaign a dead heat? Are news organizations, desperate for a horse race, putting out polls with hinky methodology just to skew the results toward a close race?

And abc/wapo battleground both came in at Obama + 2 basically the same score these polls had last week.
