George Will's column today: Voters basically tolerate Obama because he's Black

I used to think George Will was one of the more reasonable and moderate Republicans. It's disgraceful he would write something like this.

------

Why Americans Might Tolerate This Failed President

GEORGE F. WILL

Obama's administration is in shambles, yet he is prospering politically. This may not, however, entirely be evidence of the irrationality of the electorate. Something more benign may be at work.

SNIP

Perhaps a pleasant paradox defines this political season: That Obama is African-American may be important, but in a way quite unlike that darkly suggested by, for example, MSNBC's excitable boys and girls who, with their (at most) one-track minds and exquisitely sensitive olfactory receptors, sniff racism in any criticism of their pin-up.

Instead, the nation, which is generally reluctant to declare a president a failure — thereby admitting that it made a mistake choosing him — seems especially reluctant to give up on the first African-American president. If so, the 2012 election speaks well of the nation's heart, if not its head.

I see an entirely different picture of Obama's administration and I just don't understand how someone could see it as being in shambles. Are we that different from the George Will's of the world that things are really completely 180?

the first black President.

WTF kind of argument is that? First of all, many of us don't see a failed President and second of all this crap about his race allowing him to be a so called "failed President." Ugg. Why can't Republicans just get over the fact that he is a black man already. It's freakin 2012.

Why would I need to point out Will's obsession with President Obama's race if he hadn't brought it up in the first place? Republicans play hurt at the first sign that their race baiting crap is called upon.

that President Obama is as much white as he is black? What the hell does the color of his skin have to do with the Presidency? President Obama has done a wonderful job trying to clean up the mess that W left, even with all the repuke obstruction. Imagine what could have been done with cooperation from the right. Oh, that's right. Their plan was to obstruct. What a bunch of horse's asses!!

12. Will's own words contradict the point he's trying to make
Tue Oct 2, 2012, 10:33 AM

Will cites the "colorblind" hiring and firing of Frank Robinson as the Cleveland Indians' manager in the mid-1970s in order to draw a contrast between decisions made with the "head" rather than the "heart." Accepting the premise that Robinson's firing was in fact colorblind, Will himself acknowledges that decision was not made by the owners -- who he describes as incompetent and impatient and that Robinson went on to manage other teams with distinction. Will ignores some other salient facts that suggest further parallels that don't fit his conclusion, such as the fact that Robinson compiled a better record as manager of the Indians than both the manager he replaced and the manager that replaced him -- just as President Obama has turned around the record of his predecessor and there is no guarantee that replacing him will improve things.

The point, as baseball fan Will clearly knows, is that in the end a manager's success turns on the abilities of his team and whether they will follow his "game plan." Imagine a baseball manager trying to succeed when half of his team announces that they want their manager to fail That's what "manager" Obama has had to deal with and if Mr. Will really wants to see the nation's problems addressed he ought to be focusing on the behavior of the "bad apples" on the team -- the republicans that block the Obama game plan.

But I'm not holding my breath.

He's been getting by on a strong vocabulary, a solid historical background, and the ability to speak and write well. But his arguments are regularly based upon horribly flawed "facts".

Obama's administration has been anything but "in a shambles". Quite the opposite, they've been fairly successful at achieving the outcomes they've wanted, despite strong opposition from the GOP.

Strangely, it is many things the GOP was advocating 10 years ago or so.

And gave it to Reagan in 1980. And helped brief Reagan for the debates. He did not disclose that he was working for the Reagan campaign to ABC. Jimmy Carter directly accused George Will of the theft, and Will called President Carter a liar. I think we all know that President Carter is no liar, but that George Will is a raggedy piece of dogshit.
