2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhere are YOU watching the debate?
I can't wait!
Weds are usually knit night with my group of crazy very liberal friends. This week we're having a debate watch party / knit night.
Here are the ground rules:
Debate/Knit Night Ground Rules:
1. Needles will be confiscated if they become dangerous weapons.
2. Only yarn under 50 grams will be allowed to be thrown.
3. Bring only 10% of your yarn stash to use as projectiles. If your stash outnumbers the average - we will exercise redistribution so everyone has the same number.
4. Bring something to share food wise if you are so inclined
5. Alcohol is welcomed (in moderation); bring your favorite.
6. No blaming me or other political parties for knitting mistakes made during the debate.

We all have nerf bricks to throw at the TV at appropriate times. (Either that, or we'll have real bricks and a long line of TVs -- we haven't yet decided which.)
We have not decided on the drinking game.
Tikki
(14,557 posts)I'll be on DU in front of the TV running commentary to Mr. Tikki from the DU pages.
We might even play Zingo

and probably C-SPAN. I watched the DNC Convention on C-SPAN and it was the only way to go...whilst even MSNBC was advertising or blathering away, there were many a speaker that should have been covered but were not.
Actually, I'll probably be doing more listening than watching (and I cannot STAND to look at Twitchy Mittens), as others in the house will have it on and I'll still have dishes, laundry, feeding the dog, taking out trash, blah, blah, blah to do...the usual!
Going to play Romney Zinger drinking game...Everytime Romney uses a zinger instead of actually answering the question posed, you have to take a drink.
So I imagine I will be well into my cups by the end of the debate!!!

(34,136 posts)I will be going to an OFA meeting before the debate. They're having a debate party after the meeting but I won't stay for that. My comments for anything Mitt has to say are not appropriate for public airing.

Oh wait, it's not legal yet OTC.... but Amendment 64 will change that - if you're for it!
Well, of COURSE I'm for Amendment 64. But we're responsible middle aged women (theoretically) so no bong for us and Bud just sucks!

(105 posts)...here in the North-East of England at 2 a.m. with strong coffee to hand. Won't be watching Murdoch's Sky News coverage as they have been playing ads in the last couple of days featuring an apocalyptic soundtrack with phrases like "the campaign is about to get dirty" and "the election is too close to call" !

(1,124 posts)the Debate Fest at the University of Denver! Debate Fest was limited to 5,000 people and I was lucky enough to get in as my daughter is a student at DU.
I just hope the crowd leans for President Obama ... it's getting harder and harder not to express disgust with Romney supporters. My daughter has already told me I'm not allowed to get in fist fights with any a-hole tea bagger LOL

(1,555 posts)There's a lot planned to experience and take in - I envy you being able to attend!
Most of the folks I've worked with from the DU community are Obama fans - it's a vibe across the professional and volunteer debate staff.

Maybe angry after-debate sex afters, but that might be more than you guys need to know.

You do know that the Twin Towers and Building 7 came down by controlled demolition.
What an upset in American history if brains were wrapped around the truth.

(7,699 posts)We like to share the debates with our friends, but seems like when we do, we end up missing
half the debate.
We might stay home but put the phone on speaker and share that way. Keeps the conversation
more focused on the debate. We all need to focus on the debate; hubby and friend work together
and the stress there is so horrible now that politics is a good distraction/stress reliever, believe it or not.
Their job situation makes Romney look just funny.
