Zingergate

Has Obama’s debate briefing papers been leaked to Romney’s campaign team? No, as far as I know they have not been. If Romney’s staff is going to load up the Republican Presidential candidate’s debate arsenal with snappy verbal assault lines honed to damage Obama’s reelection bid, most likely they will need to write them without benefit of leaked political documents. Ronald Reagan had all the luck, Mitt Romney not so much.

So where is the scandal then? What’s with the “gate”? The scandal is a man campaigning to become President of the United States by memorizing “zingers”. The gate should slam him in the ass when he’s exiting the room.

Presidential debates go all the way back to Abraham Lincoln, the first Republican POTUS, when he ran against Democrat Stephen Douglas. Significant issues were debated at length, and in telling detail back then. Today’s Republican Party candidate for President instead fine tunes sound bites in preparation for his big moment. He hope’s to deliver a memorable line; one like "There you go again."

The Romney campaign claims there isn’t time to explain to voters the details of his plan to cut 5 trillion in taxes, while balancing the budget, without hurting those must vulnerable or America’s middle class. Romney thinks America would rather hear his zingers. Let him deliver as many zingers as he wants as long as the debate moderators demand a full answer to a golden one of their own; “Governor Romney, where’s the Beef?”
