SurveyUSA/WRAL News: (NORTH CAROLINA) (OBAMA +2)

NORTH CAROLINA - OBAMA +2

Obama - 49

Romney - 47

Undecided - 2

-----

RALEIGH, N.C. — With five weeks until the election, North Carolina remains a fierce battleground for Democratic President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney, according to a WRAL News poll released Tuesday.

SurveyUSA polled 573 likely voters statewide between Saturday and Monday and found that 49 percent would vote for Obama and 47 percent for Romney if the election were held now. The remaining 4 percent were either undecided or voting for another candidate.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.2 percentage points, meaning the president and the former Massachusetts governor are in a virtual dead heat for North Carolina's 15 electoral votes.

The race has been tight for months. A WRAL News poll in May showed Romney ahead of Obama 45 to 44 percent.

So the numbers for Romney were inflated.

I think the last SurveyUSA poll for this news station showed Romney +1, so while this is an improvement for Obama, it's still within the close margin of the North Carolina race.

4. NC polls maybe the most unreliable of all of the states because of the massive voter registration

by the Obama campaign.

With over 250,000 newly registered voters with a high liklihood of voting added to the polls it would be hard to accurately reflect those numbers, and if true would mean that Obama's numbers are underreported there.

are ramping up voter registration and turnout efforts. They are completely political in this state. The IRS rules are flaunted regularly in NC.

Kay Hagan beat Elizabeth Dole (Helms's successor) in 2008, so his Senate seat is now in Democratic hands.
