Right-wing racial panic

Hannity and Carlson hype a 2007 Obama video and prove they're having an ethnic nervous breakdown

BY JOAN WALSH

I’m promoting a book that says we need to give most white people the benefit of the doubt: Most of us aren’t in revolt against multiracial America, or the president who heralded its arrival before many were ready.

But sadly, some white people are just that crazy, and Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson are their Pied Pipers, leading them off a cliff.

Tuesday night they hyped a 2007 Barack Obama speech to a group of black ministers at Hampton University in Virginia, and they engaged in the most rancid racial fear-mongering I’ve seen in a long time. Hannity hailed the speech as “a glimpse into the mind of the real Barack Obama,” and he tried out his own black preacher voice for special effect. Carlson insisted Obama was preaching racial division to his black audience and sputtered, “This is not a dog whistle, this is a dog siren!”

He would know.

Mainly, their complaint came down to: How dare a black president (or at the time, presidential candidate) talk to a black audience about black poverty and suffering! And the legacy of slavery, and the endurance of racism! Has he no shame?

1. It does appear they think their last best chance is some good old fashioned racism

I think we are about 1 week away from Romney using the n-word regularly at rallies.

It is strange, for years republicans have been saying they aren't racist if they don't like Obama. Go to the comments at the bottom of the screen here

Pretty damn racist. Somehow the republicans have reached a new low.

3. But it is perfectly OK for us with European backgrounds, say Italian or Irish or German,

to speak our native language or seek out foods of our ethnicity or talk to select groups from our ethnicity about things that are unique to our small group.

No one thinks it odd that the older generation was raised studying virtually only European and American history.

No one would think twice if a president whose father had been from Greece spoke to a Greek audience and used Greek language and talked about Greek culture.

And no one expects Mitt Romney to avoid speaking to Mormon groups about Mormon things.

This reflects our inability to step inside the shoes of others and imagine how we would be if we had been born in different circumstances than we were.

It's so narrow-minded.

for some spoiled brat born in CT to buy a ranch that grows or breeds nothing (but photo ops) and to pretend to be a cowboy.

Hint.... cowboys don't vacation at Martha's Vineyard.

it didn't work then and it certainly won't work now.

recycling "gotcha" moments is the sure sign of a failed campaign.

racist rants, racist phone calls - he has dropped all subtleties. Limbaugh is whom politicians apologize to, whom they strive to please. Attack on minorities must be their trump card.

I'd love to see Romney make an attempt at it.

Only saw a portion of hannity (while at the gym) and the whole display and drama by tucker and hannity was so unbelievably pathetic.

They made comments about Obamas black accent and that he doesn't talk like that, was being fake, etc.

Anything to keep from having to report on the widespread gop voter fraud.

What a couple of douchebags.

A Right Wing preacher warns that God will damn America if it allows abortion.

Jeremiah White warns that God will damn America for it's oppression.

We don't want our children going to school with the coloreds.
We don't want chicken bones and watermelon rinds on our beautiful white beaches.
It's like laundry: Whites and colored don't mix.
