Could the media ask for a better race than Sanders vs. Trump?

Really, if things play out this way, and at least right now there's a good chance of that happening, you have the perfect American race for president.

On one side, you have a brash, capitalist fatcat, a perfect symbol of capitalism -- everything that's greedy and self-serving and self-aggrandizing, someone ruthless who has no hesitation of spewing lies to market the product, and won't hesitate to trample on anyone in his way, even those who broadly agree with him, someone who (for clearly opportunistic reasons) identifies as faithful, and is faithful in the way that Mussolini was faithful to the Catholic Church.

On the other side, you have someone who seems to be almost as pure as the driven snow -- selfless, caring, altruistic, who is as honest as one can be in politics, and who will not boost himself at the expense of others, and has never lost sight of creating a more just society, and someone who is a secular Jew, who identifies with his faith primarily for the broad strokes of humanity that faith provides.

What an ideal race that would be! The big risk is that if Sanders lost, it would be a victory for everything wrong with our country, and could send us on a tailspin towards fascism, with the right-wing emboldened to actually target the left. But, if Sanders won ... imagine.

If more than 1 billionaire wants to lose to the guy running against the billionaires, that's fine.

This would be fascinating to watch. I would be glued to my television. Every debate would break records for ratings.

I'm not sold on Hillary being a better chance to win.

But, never in my lifetime have we had the opportunity to bring true Democratic values to America.

It's a risk we have to take for the sake of our children and the future of the world.

Sadly, even with Hillary, we will be continuing our wars and the devastating incarceration and trade policies that have wrecked so many lives.

That could open the door for a really important conversation. It could be the complete undoing of the southern strategy.
Imagine if Bernie were to win the argument "it's not your fellow citizens you should blame, it's that white guy!"

Obama used the "brotherssisters keeper" rhetoric repeatedly, but he has been thwarted in the ugliest ways possible. Bernie wants to take it further and make it real. Will we have an opportunity to make real progress toward having a more compassionate electorate? I hope so!!!

it's nothing but a horse race, woman against man, establishment vs. outsider, personality clash, etc. - every sort of lowbrow angle they could use. That's their area of expertise, and they'd rather work it.

Sanders vs. Trump, on the other hand, would require an examination of the real differences between these two "outsiders" who've been falsely equated so many times, and that takes resources and gumption the media haven't had in years.
