We have to also work to restore the VRA. It's the only way through to truly taking back democracy.

From the article

Over the last 10 days, Sanders has enlisted 1,000 new volunteers in the state, bringing the total number to 5,000, according to Chris Covert, the campaign’s South Carolina director. They’ve knocked on 300,000 doors.
The state’s most influential black lawmaker, Rep. James E. Clyburn, told MSNBC Wednesday that Sanders, a candidate who was virtually unknown in the state only a couple of months ago, has built an impressive campaign organization in that state.
“It's very effective,” said Clyburn, who has not yet made an endorsement. “They have a pretty potent ground operation going on in South Carolina. And I'm pleased to see that.”

Yet Sanders can now boast his own support from prominent minority figures. He recently earned the endorsement of Benjamin Jealous, the former chief executive of the NAACP, who has been campaigning in South Carolina.
“Now that [Sanders] is seen as a top-tier contender, we’ll find that candidate Clinton has hit her high watermark,” Jealous predicted in a radio interview. “She will begin to lose support. How fast and how much remains to be seen.”
Ta-Nehisi Coates, the prominent black writer and activist also said Wednesday that Sanders will be getting his vote, though not any kind of endorsement.
And Sharpton told reporters that he is weighing giving Sanders his backing.

“My concern is, as the first black family in the White House moves out at the end of the year, our concerns don’t move out with them,” Sharpton told MSNBC. He added that he would not make a decision until after a meeting of civil rights leaders next week that both candidates plan to attend.

Well put. Time will tell how this goes.

The candidate said he was going after Trump voters. How can he favor us and them simultaneously. Inviting Trump voters shows that some think we should just have to deal with those people and suffer

That's when real change happens. Bring people into the fold and show them we are all the same.
Build walls and nothing gets done.

Best wishes

We don't beat up black protestors - that's what white racists at Trump rallies do. We are nothing like them.

But can Sanders convince Trump voters of both things?

by the economic message are no help. Trump voters who are seeing economic inequality because it now affects them are no help either.

I fear that many Trump voters are only interested in the issue of inequality because they are being affected. They are totally uninterested in non-whites being affected by inequality. It is only about them. Always is.

But is there a percentage of Trump voters who do not buy into the fiction of white supremacy in a white America? No idea.

Not ONLY do people change, but different people are attracted to Trump for different reasons.

Only a fool would determine that none of them can be reached and swayed to our side.

Many Trump supporters, I believe, have chosen to support him as a way of saying "I oppose the status quo".

Such people are reachable and dismissing them does nothing to advance our cause, but reaching them does.

"Them"

"It"

"Other"

If they came to our side, you wouldn't HAVE to choose to go near them. They would be with us. See how that works?

Look, Bernie is not the type to politicize in the way you are looking for.

He is not the type to take a message aimed at all people who are being destroyed by the prison industry, the economic injustice, the social injustice and wrap it in a box labelled: "A special bill for Black People".

It is part of what separates him from insincere politicians in general.

Take it or leave it. I think he is the best choice for the goals you care about.
