2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forum212 Doors today (my biggest day ever!) 51 contacts! I think I'm tired, but still inspired.....
Crisp Ohio day with registration growing to a close on Tuesday the 9th, so having a home-cooked spaghetti dinner at a friend's mom's house awaiting, I decided to go all out crazy and attempt to double my average canvassing today....so after 4 and a half hours I had reached my goal...It was pretty inspiring, lots of support (though there were 3 LOONY rombots- I mean really out there) got one person registered, and had 2 more who kept forms to fill out and drop off, also lots of interest in early voting.

(24,411 posts)Thank you for what you are doing!
I hope you had good weather while you were canvassing. It's cold here in Iowa today, and I hope you're a bit warmer in the Buckeye State.
So, when you do this--is your goal to register people? Or are you giving them info about early voting?
Thanks for doing what you are doing. It is soooo important...especially in your state. You're at the epicenter of it all in these Presidential elections. Our state is a swing state, but Ohio really is the swingiest state, right???
Again---you rock!!

(12,189 posts)we can tell them where to register (they can still register AND vote early Tuesday the 9th at board of elections, this seems to appeal to a lot of young first time voters), have them fill out registration and or absentee forms and they are taken to board of elections for them, remind them to check that they are indeed registered (with all the republican shenanigans going on) nad let them know they need 3 stamps on mail-in absentee ballots. If they seem really inspired we also ask them to volunteer.

(737 posts)I was out today too and ended up registering 6 new voters. If every other Democrat did what you did imagine the IMPACT on the whole campaign. (the efforts of your work are greater because you're in a SWING state)

(12,189 posts)I truly believe there are quite a few people out there who are somewhat afraid or hesitant to register without help. They seem to get inspired when someone helps them out and explains how and where to do it.

(4,507 posts)sure, your feet will hurt and your back will feel it, but so what.
When I worked in the Allentown area, I always used to joke that people "loved to see a white boy hustle."
I do voter reg and GOTV at high speed.
It's worth it.
