After A Great Debate Walter Mondale Closed A Fifteen Point Lead To Four Before Losing By Eighteen.

I can remember it like it was yesterday. It was an awesome debate. Walter Mondale accused Reagan of believing nuclear missiles could be recalled after being released from their silos. Reagan stammered " I never said such thing."

It was fun but the rush was ephemeral, kind of like the rush the Pukes are experiencing. It just made the loss more painful but anybody with a pulse could see it was coming.

The media covers political campaigns like sporting events. They teed it up for Romney . They will tee it up for the president to pick himself off the floor for the second debate. The media loves this isht. They live for this...

The momentum seemed to be with Mondale for a week. Then Bush Sr. absolutely destroyed Ferarro in the VP debate (hear that, Joe?), Reagan was much more equal in his second debate, and the rout was on.

afterward. Except for the time after Ferarro selection which caused a lot of enthusiasm and Newsweek poll had him only two points behind Reagan. Very temporary. After GOP convention Reagan never lost a double digit lead. But your point is still good. Obama has never been ahead in national polls by double digits and so we are seeing a debate bump for Romney which is causing a very close national election--at this point. The bump will fade and there are still three more debates.

In 1984, Reagan walloped Walter Mondale 58.8 percent to 40 percent, -- the largest electoral landslide in U.S. history. But on Oct. 15, The New York Daily News published a poll showing Mondale with only a 4-point deficit to Reagan, 45 percent to 41 percent.

I was 8 so obviously I was not really paying attention to the race. I just remember Reagan as that old doddering guy that was our President. I never really knew until recently that Mondale ever had a good debate. I grew up in a conservative home with parents that adored Reagan so all I ever heard was how bad Mondale was as a candidate.

I think the race will go to another shift for Obama for the next debate. Especially after the jobs news and if Biden does well against Ryan (which I think he will).

He sounded confused at times, from what I can remember in a haze of being 8 to 12 years old. He always seemed a little off to me. Now it actually seems sad. As a liberal, I would never want to wish something as awful as that disease on anyone, even old Ronnie.

to be President. The job is extremely stressful, and it takes its toll. They say he used to fall asleep during Cabinet meetings.

I agree; I wouldn't wish dementia on anyone. My parent has it, and it is terrible to watch. It robs the person not only of their memory but their dignity.

There wasn't nearly as many polls as there are now and those results shook the world.

And this election will come down to turnout answers will win if they don't steal it.

In a few days the first debate won't matter.

I can't stand to be in the company of negative people. People who always look for the downside in everything.
