2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumNew Post Debate Presidential Poll for Colorado: Obama 47% - Romney 43%
It's a University of Denver/Selzer poll...
Even though Colorado said Romney won the debate by a 68% - 19% margin, President Obama leads independents in the state by a 48% - 31% margin.

Wait until the jobs numbers are factored into the next poll. Even better results then.

Very encouraging. Now, let's see what happens to Romney's support as people see how he lied.

Does it lean a particular way or is it independent?

(1,290 posts)I'm sure the cross tabs aren't showing Romney with 57% support from African Americans!

Dr. Peter Hanson, among the poll conductors, will be available for interviews from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. MST (1 - 4 p.m. EST) on Sunday, Oct. 7. To arrange an interview, call 720-608-0240, or e-mail dumediarelations@gmail.com.
I'd like to ask him about this result, which bothers me.
Fifty-nine percent of respondents said jobs and the economy were the most important issues in the electionand by a margin of 50-45, they said Gov. Romney would do a better job.
Significantly, among voters who cited jobs and the economy as their top concerns, Gov. Romney leads President Obama, 56-32.
"The poll found a significant amount of polarization in the Colorado electorate in regards to the economy," noted University of Denver political scientist Dr. Seth Masket. "Democrats are much more likely to see the economy and their overall economic situation to have improved over the past year. Republicans, meanwhile, have strongly negative views of the economy and their own economic situation over the past year. Independents are more likely to say that the economy has gotten worse over the past year."

(4,551 posts)News of the new Jobs Report didn't come out until the morning of the 5th, and many people wouldn't have had time to digest it or see it until at least later that day.
So since this survey was taken largely pre-Jobs Report, we'll need to see one on the economy done now that Obama has achieved his goal of lowering unemployment below 8%.

(1,290 posts)1) Selzer is a highly respected polling firm, one of the best in the entire country actually.
2) Pole was conducted post-debate Thursday 10/4 and Friday 10/5 (Two of President Obama's worst polling days during the campaign).
3) The surveys probably didn't pick up any of Friday's good economic/unemployment news.
I wonder what this poll would look like had it been conducted on Oct. 6th, and Oct 7th.

(85 posts)Obama's drop was much less from yesterday's polling, it appears. he dropped about 7/10 of a percent from Thursday to Friday and 1/4 of a percent from Friday to Saturday. Romney jumped about 3/4 of a percent from Thursday to Friday and went up about 1/4 of a percent Friday to Saturday. This is a 7 day rolling average so it now includes 3 post debate days and one post-jobs report, massive Dem haul days. At least it looks like the surge is blunted. Now I'd like to see it move back in the other direction.
