2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhy Obama now has sooooo HUGE an ADVANTAGE going forward:
1) Obama was looking down in the debate writing down RobMe's many LIES and FLIPS. And there was soooo much to write down. THAT is what he was doing. Already on the stump and in ads they are SLAMMING RobMe on these. OBAMA DID NOT MAKE THOSE MISTAKES AT ALL. NO GAFFES. RobMe's BIG BIRD GAFFE was HUGE. It is VIRAL.
2) Now the debate expectations for Obama are LOW and RobMe has already PEAKED. Think about it. RobMe has nowhere else to go but DOWN, and Obama nowhere but UP. When Obama goes into rounds 2 and 3, he will hit harder and be more energized. And he now has an arsenal of LIES and FLIPFLOPS from round 1 to hit him with.
3) The challenger almost always "wins" round 1 no matter what. Just the way it is. RobMe was going to get a small and temporary bump no matter what. BUT THE LARGER FUNDAMENTALS OF THE RACE HAVEN'T CHANGED. When the dust settles, this race will not be won on ONE debate. It is the big picture. And EVERY election model has this for OBAMA.
***And as a kicker, we just had a good jobs report. That is now also kicking in to the polls, along with the TeamObama ads SLAMMING Robme on his FLIP-LIES, and the slamming of RobMe on the stump, and the Big Bird DEBACLE FOR ROBME which has gone ultra-viral all over the world. RobMe won the debate on style, but is losing bigtime in the aftermath as the LIES and FLIPS and GAFFE go VIRAL.
SO SKYFALLERS, PLEASE CHILL OUT and see the big picture. There is a long way to go.

(3,226 posts)Obama would have looked better by not looking down so much, since he was not going to rebut the lies on stage but wait till later and use them in his ads he could have kept his chin up more (maybe he was keeping from vomiting over Mitts lies)

(4,551 posts)And stop smiling while Romney is talking as well. Some people characterize it as a smirk and now the RNC has video out of Obama 'smirking' while Romney talks.
Obama needs to look Romney in the eye and call him out right to his face.

(14,881 posts)during the debate, which strategy I agree with, since there are so many and they are so deeply piled, he doesn't need to write them down. Doubtless the team has audio and video.
Although he was looking down for the few minutes I was able to watch, I could see even from behind that he was smiling.
And I agree that this debate will ultimately do Romney far more damage than good.
His threat to fire Jim Lehrer and Big Bird was a major mistake. It's not just that Big Bird is going viral. It's that PBS now has a vested interest in saving themselves. Unless they're breaking laws, never, ever threaten the media.

(14,881 posts)In the small snippet I saw before my teevee fritzed out, Obama did rebut the lies. Once, quietly. Which was the right thing to do. It would have been nice if he had been more forceful in rebutting them, but that's where he struck me as exhausted. So hopefully more rested up.
The Big Bird meme has taken on a life of its own. Apparently Big Bird has become a very popular Halloween costume this year. Hopefully carrying "will work for food" signs! The timing for that reminder couldn't be better!

(8,064 posts)Romney is on a "sugar-high", as the republicans like to call it, right now.
the little bump he is feeling isn't a real bump at all as we are seeing it disappear quickly.
it is nothing like the long lasting bounce that President Obama saw after the
DNC.
Romney is up for a rude awakening beginning this weekend when he will be kicking and
screaming like Veruca Salt, complaining that he isn't getting his way with the pundits
who seemed to all be on his side the week before.
In contrast, the President hasn't thrown an tantrum at all regarding the treatment he
has gotten from the press in the last week. Infact, he is light hearted enough to
laugh at himself over it. Romney will come out looking like a complete asshole next
to President Obama.

they have nothing to stand on now but to revert to their tried and true HATE MONGERING of
women, gays, blacks and "illegals" (as they like to call immigrants).
