WHEN THE POLITICAL PENDULUM SWINGS

Delusion is an incurable disease. Despite all facts to the contrary, my acquaintances from yesteryears still stubbornly believe Obama is a Muslim-socialist-commie-alien imposter that plans to destroy America and set up Sharia law. He’s their Machiavellian candidate. No one can persuade them otherwise. No use trying. Since they want to believe the worst, so what if the worst is baseless? If facts get in their way, they’re denied – dismissed as liberal mainstream propaganda. Their desire crushes the truth.
My son and I were looking at the most recent national poll map online this week when I asked, “Jeremy what does that red-state configuration say to you?”
He immediately replied, “Racism, religion, radicalism, and …. retardation.” (Jeremy meant no offense with the last depiction. What other word is there to describe such anti-intelligence, anti-science, intolerance, and anti-logic?)
Since 2000, America’s electoral map resembles the rise of the Old Confederacy – with the exception of the Mormon-dominated states out West which were sparsely-populated territories in 1861.
As of today, it looks like Obama and Democrats may experience a landslide November 6. What a catastrophic shock to the millions of bigots in this country. I can hear them crying now, demanding they reverse the results through “Second Amendment remedies.”
