GOP businessman Jon Huntsman Sr. endorses Utah's lone Democrat in Congress

SALT LAKE CITY — Republican businessman and billionaire philanthropist Jon Huntsman Sr. is endorsing Utah's only Democrat in Congress.

Huntsman, in a prepared statement, called Rep. Jim Matheson a conservative Democrat who represents the state "very well" and puts the state's interests first.

Matheson, who's locked in a tight race with Republican Mia Love, says his family and the Huntsmans "have long shared the values of giving back to the community and working in a bipartisan way to solve problems and achieve progress."

According to another family member, Huntsman's son, former GOP presidential candidate and Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., has no plans to endorse any candidate this election.

But another son, Huntsman Cancer Foundation President and CEO David Huntsman, also endorsed Matheson.

Matheson was our Congressman, sad to say, just another empty suit claiming to be a Democrat(Dino-Blue Dog). In Udah, the Church will decide whom will or won't be our Senator's or Congress Person. Being a bleeding heart Liberal, still vote straight Dem ticket just to piss these crazies off. Feel for the folks in that new district, your really screwed either way,you get a Dino or a Teabilly.

In a year like this, every seat the Dems can get matters, even if it's a Blue Dog.

Preferable to a Republican.

The Huntsmans hold a lot of respect in Utah, this may be a very important endorsement for Matheson. One of my college professors (Dan Jones) did the poll that showed Love ahead last week, and he was very adamant about this race potentially swinging in either direction. I know I will be voting for Matheson purely to help elect Pelosi as Speaker.
