Hillary Clinton's plan to undo the school-to-prison pipeline, explainedby German Lopez at Vox

"SNIP...........
The new $2 billion plan, which goes after the so-called "school-to-prison pipeline," will incentivize the hiring of "school climate support teams" made up of social workers, behavioral health specialists, and education practitioners to work with school staff to reorient and develop comprehensive reform plans for school discipline policies.
Specifically, reform plans should try to establish "early warning systems" to identify and help at-risk students and provide training to school staff on conflict deescalation and other ways to defuse a situation without resorting to harsh discipline measures, according to Clinton's campaign.
Clinton's staff said Clinton acknowledges that students who commit violent offenses should be removed from the classroom. But she also believes such incidents are very rare (they are), and that the rush to handle school discipline through the criminal justice system does more harm than good.
The proposal is part of a much broader plan what Clinton's campaign calls the "Breaking Down Barriers" agenda which would direct $20 billion to youth jobs, $5 billion to reentry programs for formerly incarcerated people, and $25 billion to support entrepreneurship and small business growth in underserved communities.

(21,946 posts)system that's been set up. Whoever thought up and sanctioned that boondoggle should be incarcerated right along with the kids.

(5,420 posts)U get arrested for any small crime and u may loose your job right away. You are put on probation which costs.
You are assigned community service, which costs.
In many cases your license is suspended even though your crime had nothing to do with driving. Now how are you getting to work?
You are drug tested even though your crime had nothing to do with drugs.
You are not allowed to drink alcohol even if your crime had nothing to do with alcohol.
Eventually you violate your probation due to any number of issues that have nothing to do with your crime.
You then go serve your original sentence after all.
You will probably Lose your job through all of this. Even if you are on work release, few jobs will tolerate all of the court appearances, drug classes, probation meetings, etc.
Then without a job you can't pay all of those fees which often run over a thousand.
Then you are put in jail for failure to comply.
Your life is destroyed over a minor incidence and it is all by the plan.

(2,807 posts)Get on it. We need inane whinings first out of the chute. Up your game, this is after all, Bernie Underground. We cannot have even one single post that seemingly supports Hillary NOT being ridiculed without context and evidence ON THE FIRST REPLY.
What's up?

(118,832 posts)all. I missed them terribly when I posted an article critical of Bernie and they did not show up. Nobody said anything negative about Hillary or me. There was such a huge vacuum created by their non obfuscation and non harassment that it had to be a meeting. I'm guessing in Kansas.

(34,825 posts)I'll be sure to pass along your best wishes to the group in Kansas.

(47,803 posts)If she and her crew are going to try to throw cold water on Bernies idea, turnabout is fair play.
Darb
(2,807 posts)that's a fair comparison. Not.

(47,803 posts)Instead of Bernie's larger ideas, she's flinging around a lot of "chicken in every pot" gimmicks to pander to any individual constituency she is speaking to.
Cumulatively they all will have to go through the same GOP Congress and be paid for too, so they're just a lot of little unicorns
Darb
(2,807 posts)Good luck with that one. I will leave it to the next guy.

(2,807 posts)I just got back from a Bernies-induced sabbatical. Don't piss off the Bernies on the BU, I'll just wait for the DU to come back.

(22,308 posts)All I saw was one sound bite on NBC Nightly News, and it made no sense to me. I was hoping it might be explained if it were put into context.
I did a Google search for it but had no luck (admittedly I gave up rather easily) and figured I could look again tomorrow.
Just FYI. The little bit I hear was her saying (paraphrased) "It is not only wrong but it is immoral".
Just WTF does that mean? Are there things that are wrong but not immoral? Are there things that are right but are immoral? I would think that when discussing racial inequality "wrong" and "immoral" are synonymous. I hope that learning the context will clear that up.

Just have 2 questions? How does it get done and how does it get paid for?

(11,802 posts)we're talking about the U.S. House of Representatives here. They'll never pass it. Unless of course, it's coupled with a huge giveaway to the prison industry...

(9,688 posts)It sounds kinda gruesome, considering that her main time will be spent ramping up wars in the ME and elsewhere.
You're promoting a Frankenstein future.
Just stop it.
