2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumObama, on Hillary:"too polarizing to get anything done" "untrustworthy" "driven by pol calculation"
Obama soon added a harsher note to the argument: that Hillary, perhaps like her finger-wagging husband, was untrustworthy. On November 10, 2007, Obamas advisers, in a private memo before a pivotal speech in Iowa, laid out the strategy. Clinton, they argued, cant be trusted or believed when it comes to change, because shes driven by political calculation, not conviction.

FAIL.

(24,853 posts)And you totally misunderstood my post by the way but that's to be expected... my point was that I'd say she was offered and refused the VP position if I were you.

"She was never vetted," a Democratic official reported. "She was not asked for a single piece of paper. She and Senator Obama have never had a single conversation about it. How would he know if she'd take it?" ...
"This would be the biggest leap of faith ever," the official said. "She's waiting for the text message like everyone else."

(11,936 posts)And he has been a reliable vote in the Democratic caucus the vast, vast majority of the time. People like Bernie keep the spirit of FDR's economic vision alive in the Democratic party.

(24,634 posts)I don't see how him placing her as SoS goes against his statement. He put her in a place that he felt was fitting for her skill set. He just doesn't see her fit as President.

(24,634 posts)People were speculating if it would be her or Biden and I believe another candidate. I remember people following Biden around, as he was on the short list like Clinton was. I do not remember her ever being offered the position first. Actually, I remember people saying Biden new he was the pick a few days before it was actually announced and he just kept quiet about it.

Try to say something nice about the parasite on the democratic party

REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
I'm just going to alert on this poster every time it calls Bernie a parasite in hopes of getting a sympathetic jury. Thanks.
JURY RESULTS
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Wed Feb 17, 2016, 12:53 AM, and the Jury voted 5-2 to HIDE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Not going to support an Alerter who isn't being truthful about the poster being alerted on. NO WHERE in that post does it name Bernie. And alert-stalking is so petulantly childish.
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Though likely not the intention, "parasite", can have some really nasty anti-Semitic implications. While I normally don't hide "personal attacks" on candidates, this is OTT and I would I hide something similar said about Clinton, but not republicans. I am not perfect.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: I'm supporting Hillary, but I consider this to be beyond the pale.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Wow, an alerter openly admitting to alert stalking. I'll be alerting on the results - see what the admins think of this crap.
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(7,231 posts)Back in the beginning of his presidency, Obama was way too accomodating to "the other sides".
His analysis of Clinton, as untrustworthy and driven by political calculation, was - and still is - SPOT ON.

(57,936 posts)that appointment.
It may have been a gesture to unify the Democratic Party after a terribly divisive primary.
At any rate, within months after Benghazi and a little after the resignation of Petraeus after the outing of his affair with his biographer, Hillary left the White House team. We also don't really know what was behind that.
I'm not saying that there was anything other than what we do know, but with matters like these, those who know do not share what they know with the likes of us.
May all be simply as it is presented to us and may not be at ll as it is presented to us. We really don't know.

(27,247 posts)The vice-presidency is mainly a ceremonial role, while the Secretary of State, as we have seen, can have enormous influence overseas.

(13,877 posts)That she did an abysmal job is beside the point...not referring to Benghazi...but all the wars and dead and maimed and ruined families and towns and entire segments in the ME. She did some good things, but none that outweighed The Hawk that is deeply imbedded in her. That's the "Fail", IMO.

(14,459 posts)He needs her to continue with the centerism or his "legacy" is in jeopardy. Otherwise he rather dislikes her.
She needs his support to shore up her gaping popularity hole and to help get PoC votes. Otherwise she's still mad he stole her corner office.
