Bernie Sanders: "I will be an Arts President. Art is speech. Art is what life is about!"

Last edited Wed Feb 17, 2016, 12:50 PM - Edit history (1)

As a freelancer who works in a creative field, I love this!!

Bernie Sanders has been a looongtime supporter of government sponsorship of the arts, even when it may have not been cool. Improving mental health in the United States, especially in children, will include the arts and music. Bernie Sanders has the progressive vision to rethink how we do things.

Scientific American:
- Music Lessons Combat Poverty's Effect on the Brain bit.ly/1nOTRlM
- Music Can Heal the Brain bit.ly/1J9evdO

In this video from the early 1990s (video here: on.fb.me/1KLjz9T), Bernie Sanders describes immoral and outrageous ways to balance a budget: Gingrich wanted to cut back on higher education, cut funds for the National Endowment of the Arts (Costs less than 10% of a B2 bomber that the Pentagon didn't want), others wanted to cut Medicare and Medicaid

("One issue"? Not true in the least)!

Love this! Neoliberalism has no place for art. It does not understand what meaning is about. It treats us all like little robots competing with each other for scraps.

who is a president of a living, breathing, people, life and meaning, the richness of a civilization. We don't need another president of money, who helps only money.

You were the best vote I ever made in a primary. And in the general, you will be the best vote I believe I will ever make!

country, what do you seek out? The great architecture, museums, music, dance, the stories and literature...and some might say that unique cuisine is artistic expression. Art is essential to human expression. America focuses more on war and wealth acquisition than art, and perhaps that's one big reason why we have the greatest percentage of clinically depressed people in the world.

I love hearing this upfront and sincerely spoken by a man who understands the vital nature of the arts in making progress and in making a healthy society.
