New Santorum ad has Romney look-alike with machine gun (they are both nuts!)

Michigan, meet "Rombo."

Republican Presidential candidate Rick Santorum has launched a new attack ad in the critical, delegate-rich state, painting his rival Mitt Romney as a gun-toting, mudslinging corporate stiff.

In the 32-second spot, a Romney look-alike is seen lurking around a parking garage with a machine gun. He is then seen firing away mud at a cut-out of the ex-Pennsylvania senator.

The narrator rips the former Massachusetts governor who is trying to "hide from Romneycare and support for job killing cap and trade" by negatively attacking Santorum.

At the end of the ad, the machine gun backfires and "Rombo" gets mud all over his expensive-looking suit.

These are the people who go on and on about candidates needing "gravitas?!?"

This is something I'd expect from a college student running as a prank. It's pathetic.

Hard to believe that a serious presidential candidate would run an ad like this though.

1) The figure who is supposed to be Romney looks a lot like Rick Perry. Or maybe that's just me.

2) The slimy mud bullets splatting and oozing down the wall and "backfiring" onto the "Romney" character... really? Does Santorum really want to evoke THAT imagery?

3) And to me, the most important and most jarring signifier: Santorum has approved an ad that represents him as a 2 dimensional cardboard cut out. A paper man with absolutely no depth.

The "brains" behind this fiasco should be fired. But not until Santorum gets his money back.

But given the intellectual level of Republican primary voters, who knows?
