Related: About this forumOn Rachel Maddow: It took 2½ mins to drive the length of the line of students waiting to see Bernie
Rachel Maddow showed a video showing people in line waiting in 25 degree weather to get into a Bernie rally at Eastern Michigan University. It took the driver 2-1/2 mins to drive the length of the line in 25 degree weather. Over 9,000 people attended.

(45,251 posts)9400 attended. As I recall from earlier threads.

(45,251 posts)My point was that, if the venue held more people, more would have been there. He usually fills whatever venue he's in to capacity. In LA. there were 7000 in overflow alone.

It's a blue light special!

(17,796 posts)do know that they used a misleading chart, which is very unlike her. Hopefully she comes out and corrects it.

(17,469 posts)and it is the kind of thing she usually calls out. I can't speak for her, but I think this may have been a staffer error, or she simply didn't pay attention.
We are all prone to mistakes, and putting together an hourly show on current events 5 times a week is "challenging" to say the least.
I hope she corrects it.

(1,192 posts)I thought for months that she was drawn to Bernie (and Bernie certainly seemed to like her). She even went on to defend Bernie when she had Hillary on. But after that, she seems more cautious somehow? It looks like she's toeing the line. After all, who keeps their job on MSNBC when they're openly pro-Bernie?

(17,469 posts)I am a Bernie supporter, and while I may not welcome everything she says, she has called HRC on her faults. People are getting too angry (myself included) on this issue, and we all need to cut each other some slack. I have followed Rachel since Air America and she is a nice person, smart, funny and a dedicated liberal.
That said, I can't expect to agree with her on everything.

(1,554 posts)So glad I was able to hear Bernie speak.
I was lucky enough that I could hear him without amplification.

(13,776 posts)Whether that's your picture or not, if you were able to hear him without the speakers--wow! Lucky lucky you!
Took it with my phone.
Got in line around 9am, drove by to see what the scene looked like and was like "you gotta do this". I spent over 3 hours in line with some of the best people you could imagine: a young teacher and her mother who drove in from out of town; a man from England, who has just become a citizen after moving here 5 years ago; a couple of high schoolers who were so enthusiastic about being able to vote for the first time; a guy who now lives in California but was home for a visit and had to see Bernie; a thirty-something couple who were so cool and wanted to see a better future for their young kids.
We were all within the first 100 yards from the building entrance so we got to see the whole thing develop and grow. Occasionally, one of us would walk back to see how long the line was getting, but until I saw this video I had no clue it went that far. And that was just outside, before Bernie even spoke.
Once inside we were able to get real close to the stage as you can see. It's cool seeing all the press photos because in them I can see a lot of the people I described above in the background. Four of them got to shake Bernie's hand as they set themselves up behind the stage. And then after he spoke, we met up again and went over what a great experience we had. It really felt like a great concert.
I bet I never see any of these folks again in my life, but I will never forget the few hours we spent together witnessing and making history. That's what Bernie is doing. He is building a movement based on shared experiences, and common ideas about where our country should be heading. Knowing that these people and millions like them are out there gives me great hope. Real hope, that Bernie is going to win this thing.
As Bernie keeps saying, this is not about him, it is about us. We need to do this. It doesn't start at the top, there is no "trickle down", it begins at the bottom and grows upward. We need to do this. We need to make it happen. He is just our face, our spokesman. Let's do this people!

(13,776 posts)Thank you for that lovely story. It warms my heart and it makes me almost feel as though I was there too!
I really appreciate your going to the trouble of typing all that out so you could share it with those of us who might not ever get to go to one of these in person.
