Killer Mike Made a Remark About Hillary Clinton’s Uterus. It Doesn’t Sound Better in Context.

http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_factor/2016/02/17/the_context_of_killer_mike_s_sexist_remark_about_hillary_clinton_s_uterus.html

Stalwart Bernie Sanders supporter Killer Mike is catching flak for using a fellow Sanders supporter’s quote—“a uterus doesn’t qualify you to be president of the United States”—in a speech he made on behalf of the candidate in Atlanta on Tuesday.

At Morehouse College, the Run the Jewels rapper took aim at Hillary Clinton:

When people tell us, ‘Hold on, wait awhile.’ And that’s what the other Democrat is telling you. ‘Hold on, Black Lives Matter. Just wait awhile. Hold on, young people in this country, just wait awhile.’ And then, and then … she have your own mama come to you. Your own mama say to you, ‘Well, you’re a woman.’ But I talked to [activist] Jane Elliott a few weeks ago, and Jane said, ‘Michael, a uterus doesn’t qualify you to be president of the United States. You have to be—you have to have policy that’s reflective of social justice.’
The implication, of course, is that Clinton isn’t qualified to be president based on her actual accomplishments, and that her supporters have only rallied behind her because she’s a woman—specifically, one with a uterus. Now, Killer Mike is protesting that he can’t be held responsible for the crude phrasing because he didn’t think it up—he just parroted it. “I didn't say that,” he tweeted on Tuesday night. “A progressive activist woman said [it] to me.” His fans are saying “haters” are “distorting his words” and quoting him out of context:

The brouhaha over this comment is desperation. I just wrote this on another thread about Mike's talk (Which was inspired oratory BTW) and I'll share it with you also:

Twice now Hillary has attempted a coronation and twice she has be thwarted because she reflexively went straight to an amoral kitchen sink strategy. And why makes it really bad, is the way her campaign seems to think people are too dumb to see what is going on.

There is no political corollary to the adage "You can't cheat an honest person", because sliming an honest person has actually been pretty easy; especially if you own barrels of ink and the airwaves. But now that we have the internets, that shit has become a whole lot more difficult and a world less effective.

Don't forget you were warned that these tactics are going to backfire.

I am a woman, and I have seen the remarks made against women since I was a child, certainly not as much as being a woman of color, but we need to stop the division according to gender, race, religion and sexual orientation.

So newsflash, I am a person! And that should be all. Stop dividing us!

I could be some kid in Iraq that lost their entire family with the hell we created when we destabilized their country. Women in Iraq had more education and freedom before we invaded. A quarter of the population in Iraq was killed or moved to another country and Hillary said "she made a mistake."

We are all in this world together, either you understand that or you do not.

We should all strive to not be identified by gender, race, age, religion or sexual orientation, that is what she said and what he repeated.

There should be no place where we relegate people into categories, to do so is a recipe for disaster and produces a nation of a diminished class, be that gender, race, religion, age or sexual orientation.

We have all seen those who seek to divide, let us not be a party to those divisions.

I am a person, struggling to survive, that is all.

my daughter switched parties because she is excited with Sanders, not sure she would show up for Clinton.

I was astonished when she said she could easily move to another country, possibly north of the border, if things became rough here in the US. Sure her salary would be less, but she sees the inequities every day.

DU is not the world, there are people suffering who cannot afford treatment and the needed meds.

Killer Mike's speech was amazing.

Hillary has played the gender card nonstop.

The statement made by Jane Elliot is correct.

Having a uterus does not qualify anyone to be president.

Having a penis does not qualify anyone to be president.

Stop playing the female victim card.

I don't much like them anyway. "Having a uterus" or "having a vagina" or "having breasts" is nt the proper way to say "being a woman." We should even crack down on the old "having a penis" and "having outdoor plumbing." Let's just say women and men, okay?
