Kasim Reed on Bernie Sanders: ‘He’s not going to be the nominee.’

Our AJC colleague Katie Leslie reports that at a press conference on Tuesday, he predicted Sanders would be clobbered on Georgia’s March 1 primary.

“He’s never led anything in the U.S. Senate. What has he led? How many bills has he passed? He’s no Senator Kennedy,” Reed said of Sanders, comparing his rallies to Republican frontrunner Donald Trump’s raucous events.

“We are not going to put our party in the hands of someone who is not even a Democrat and watch him take this party over a cliff,” he said. “He is not going to get away with this foolishness in Georgia or South Carolina.”

He added: “Stop treating Bernie Sanders like he’s something special. He’s not going to be the nominee.”

He is the most successful small donor fundraiser in history. He speaks for millions.

And Bernie is not like Hillary. He won't be greedily sucking up at the corporate trough to line his pockets.

He's represented me for decades. I know. You don't. Not even a tiny bit.

New National Poll: Sanders blows out every potential Republican opponent, Hillary loses to everyone but Trump.

"American voters back Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont over Republican candidates by margins of 4 to 10 percentage points in head to head presidential matchups, according to a Quinnipiac University National poll released today. The closest Republican contender is Ohio Gov. John Kasich who trails Sanders 45 – 41 percent. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton trails or ties leading Republicans in the November face-off, the independent Quinnipiac University Poll finds. "

No mention of Hills many bills passed. Oh wait. Um just those building naming ones. I guess that's why.

Led? Well Chairing Veterans committee and Budget Committee for Democrats might be leading. Hillary? Nope.

What a rude condescending thing to say "nothing special". Not to Bernie supporters.

Clinton surrogates really don't do her any favors when they talk this way. No wonder the GA Rural Dem Caucus Leader said this on his FB page http://www.democraticunderground.com/12511259219

no one expects him to win friggin' Georgia!! As a matter of fact, I predict that Bernie will LOSE all of the Southern states and he will still win the nomination.

They are attempting to slash and burn Sander's visits to black colleges and African American strongholds. They're attacking him, nonstop, while he's coming and going.

The Clinton camp is determined to position Sanders as someone who doesn't care about the minority concerns--which is not at all true. They know his powerful economic messages/policies/ideas will resonate with all people and they are doing their best to tear down Sander's efforts within the African American community. Clinton has no central message. All she can do is attack Sanders.

It's not working though.

They're laying on these attacks, so thick. Does Clinton really believe that people are so gullible?

I also think they've stepped up their attacks on Bernie because of this news that came out yesterday, "Key Georgia Democrat Switched from Clinton to Sanders: State Senator Vincent Ford Could Help Mobilize Minority Voters."

One of Georgia's top Democrats is now supporting Sanders. He represents part of the Atlanta area and could be very helpful to Sander's campaign.

We'll see. They seem pretty panicked for a campaign whose main opponent couldn't possibly beat them.

It would shock me if Bernie were the nominee and I am in the camp that sees HRC as a better option in Nov. (although I profoundly wish she and Bill had rode off into the sunset years ago). Sadly, I don't expect most professional Democrats will actually learn something from him, adapt his best lines (there are a lot of great ones, especially the language he uses to describe Republicans) and emulate his commitment to public service. They'll say it was just the nutty professor and, after all, he was never one of us. But when you see him thundering in Flint about how we found $1 trillion for the Iraq war but we can't find money for our own people and listen to the thousands of people roar in response, you have to be tone deaf and guilty of political malpractice to treat him as a one-off.
