If [Bernie Sanders] were elected, I think hed be the one, from the current candidates ... with the best policies, the renowned linguist and activist recently told Al-Jazeera in an interview. Chomsky adds, however, that in the current American system of bought elections, he doesnt think Sanders has much chance of winning. He goes on to outline the differences between the Democrats and Republicans who are running.

"Democratic" is a modifier of the primary word:
The fact that you have to keep trying to explain why "Democratic Socialism" isn't a subset of "Socialism", but apparently is something else entirely, is why you've already lost the inevitable battle with the Republicans when they tar Sanders with the "Socialist" label.

(1,151 posts)Social Democrats have always been a part of the leftist socialist coalition, even if they're the rightmost wing of that coalition. There are multiple social democratic parties in the Socialist International as well, including UK Labor (though after Blair you could make a strong argument they should have been expelled).
