Related: About this forumNevada Democrats will break caucus ties with high-card draw
I really don't know whether to laugh or cry
The party will furnish each precinct location with an "unopened deck" to be shuffled "at least seven times" after extra cards, like jokers, are removed. If the two sides pull cards of the same rank, the winner will be determined by suit: spades are the highest, with hearts, diamonds and clubs -- in that order -- to follow.
Precinct chairs will be given a hotline number to call if they run into any confusion along the way.

(11,366 posts)The initiative, appropriately called Film the Caucus, appears to have officially launched this week. The first Facebook posts and Youtube videos, which show alleged improprieties from the Iowa caucus, in which Sanders lost to Clinton by a hair, were published on Wednesday, Vocativ discovered.
The idea is to gather an indisputable record of proceedings using tools including a Google Form for volunteers, a Facebook page and a Youtube channel, where all videos from Nevada will be posted on Saturday during the caucuses.

(52,163 posts)Ties happen. Just how would you suggest breaking the tie? Apparently coins are bad, cards are now bad. So just how would you suggest breaking a tie?

(52,163 posts)and have said so for years. But even without a caucus a tie could happen within a CD.

(2,760 posts)The caucus system disenfranchises too many people. People not understanding the system is a very good reason to get rid of it, trust in the system is fundamental to democracy.

(4,387 posts)...with the system we have. It's cumulative over 50 states and the chances of it STILL being tied after all 50 are pretty small.

(24,396 posts)Big problem for Bernie - everyone knows the house never loses in Vegas, and Hillary is the house in this caucus.

(52,163 posts)you can do the math. There are 128 ways that you can flip 7 coins (2^7). One way would be all Hillary, one way would be all Bernie. Then you have 7 where Hillary wins one, and 7 where Bernie wins one. That totals 16. 16/128 is 1/8. But again, Bernie is the one who won 6 not Hillary.

(1,443 posts)this is a paper that endorsed Hillary and even they don't believe it.
Heres just how unlikely Hillary Clintons 6-for-6 coin-toss victories would have been

(52,163 posts)and they were wrong. It has since been reported by multiple sources that there were 7 flips of which he won 6. but even flipping that to her winning 6 of 7 and my math is correct.

(24,411 posts)After experiencing the mayhem that was the Iowa caucuses--and all of the cheating--I am concerned that the Clinton camp will wreak havoc and chaos in their next caucus stop.
There was cheating in my precinct. There were dirty tricks and chaos played out all over my state. I had friends call me after their caucus and tell me horror stories. Such a disgrace. We had 240,000 record-breaking caucus attendance in 2008--and the caucuses went off without a hitch. This year, we had 170,000 caucus goers and mayhem ensued. So many dirty tricks and efforts to intentionally cause chaos. So many that it's obvious that it wasn't an accident.
I don't have a problem with this "high card draw". People misunderstand these aspects of the caucuses. There truly are ties. You have to have a neutral way of deciding those ties. I personally don't understand why .5 delegates aren't apportioned in those instances. But, coin flips and card draws are necessary. They are rare, as well--but when they happen they are given inordinate publicity.
The coin flips are actually fair. It's all of the other cheating and dirty tricks that are so maddening. The sensationalism of the coin flips ends up eclipsing the real story of rampant cheating and intentional chaos that happens on so many levels.
I hope Nevada is prepared!!!! Sanders knows that cheating happened in Iowa. I was called by the campaign and I told my own horror story. I am confident that his campaign learned and will plan accordingly.
