CNN AIRS CLINTON AD, IS IT AN UNOFFICAL ENDORSEMENT? Daily Kos

- Hillary Clinton's Latest Ad Is Airing on CNN, and It's the Only Political Ad Airing on the Network-

Feb. 19. This is not a rhetorical question: at what point does it become official that a news organization is endorsing a candidate. Today I noticed a Clinton ad airing on CNN. I don’t think it’s a mystery to anyone that CNN leans in strong favor of Secretary Clinton, considering that they cover every development in her campaign, especially major endorsements, while only mentioning Sanders if and when it allows an opportunity to indirectly cut him down by paraphrasing skepticism proposed by some ambiguous demographic referred to only as “some people.” And, most of us know that CNN’s parent company, Time Warner, is in the top ten of high-roller donors to the Clinton campaign, which as Bernie Sanders might say, “probably isn’t just a coincidence.”

I like to keep my TV tuned into world news and have it on in the background while I work from home, and before today CNN had been my preference. I’ve been able to mentally filter out their steady stream of pro-Clinton bias, but for some reason it’s really getting under my skin that not only are they airing her ad, but they also just interviewed the ad’s celebrity narrator, Morgan Freeman, which served to legitimize and promote it even further.

Maybe the question I really should be asking is, “which 24 hour news network is least biased?”

her. Many progressives feel the bern and want the to see the Democratic party veer back from centrist to populist.

Hillary will not win the GE, even if the party insiders give her the nomination.

So if no other candidate buys ad time, CNN should refuse to run the ad from the one candidate that did buy time?

Comments from the article

Did Sec. Clinton's campaign buy an ad? Were they doing a story on an ad? I don't get it.

Please stop complaining about nothing.

Gee, I’ve seen Bernie’s ad on MSNBC for a couple of weeks now. Several times a day. Does that mean they endorse Sanders? Really, how paranoid are you guys?

To answer your question, the only way they’d be doing something particularly wrong is if they REFUSED an ad-buy from the Sanders campaign. This is commercial television, and this is how it works. I wouldn’t be surprised if we did see Sanders commercials on CNN as we get closer to Super Tuesday.

8. same point I made. Gee, I saw a Bernie ad aired on a network, that network must be bias for Bernie

Clearly, Clinton paid for airtime on the network. CNN is always a recommended network for airing campaign ads, it was on the list of recommendations when I ran for office. No conspiracy.

6. So is KOS saying that the Clinton ad was given free air time? Did the Sanders campaign buy ad time

on CNN and were they refused?

In my view, unless the answer is yes to both of those questions, then the accusation has no merit.

Where such an accusation did have merit was when John Kerry was Swift Boated, and they reported as news, the swift boat ads 24/7.

That does not appear to be the case here.

What is the author saying, network who airs an ad for a candidate, that network is bias for that candidate?

If the network was paid money to air the ad by the respective campaign, that argument has no merit

The Clark County Black Caucus endorsement for Bernie, I believe they're afraid it goes against their frame of Bernie not connecting or appealing to African Americans.

CNN has talked up the Clyburn endorsement for Hillary.

Thanks for the thread, appalachiablue.
