2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumA self-declared European-type socialist will never win the American general election.
Nice guy. Good heart. Means well. Agreement on many of his goals and he brings much needed attention to income inequality and political reform issues.
But this country simply won't vote for someone who wants to turn us into a Scandinavian-type nation. That is Bernie's grand vision, and it will be his DOOM. He will be branded as a foreign entity, and it will stick.
His grand ideas for such a massive expansion of government (with NO mention of expanding the private sector in his speeches) and his self-branding as a socialist would CRUSH him to smithereens in the AMERICAN general election campaign. A total political BLOODBATH.
This is why the R's are WORKING to try to help him win the nomination. They are on their knees praying to be able to run against Sanders.
Hillary is more qualified, more tested, and more prepared to take on all the parts of the job. She isn't just about large slogans and talking points but DETAILED plans to actually make things happen.

(8,659 posts)European socialism was a very organic process which occurred in countries with parliamentary governments, all of which have MANY politic parties, and are ruled by consensus and compromise. Bernie lives in a two party system, and has few allies in either party. He is not known for consensus or compromise.

See here's the deal RB that you and other Hillary supporters don't get or understand. We've tried the other ways forever, literally. Do you know what has gotten us? Cuts in social security, our infrastructure crumbling. people swimming in student loan debt, people working 40 hrs a week and not being able to survive, less union power, stagnant wages, banks getting bailed out but the people getting screwed, on and on.
Sorry RB but America is completely fed up with the establishment than you and Hillary are for.
We're here and we are uprooting the system because we're sick and tired being screwed by filthy rich politicans who have sold their souls to special interest and Wall Street.
We're here.

If Sanders political position is considered Center Right in Europe---Where the Hell do the rest of the candidates fall?
Bernie Is going to win because "we're" ready for him-by Majority....even IF Europe considers him Center-Right!

(73,637 posts)I certainly respect thoughtful, rational discussion, which you provide here. And I agree that some republicans would prefer that their nominee run against Bernie.
However, I believe Bernie is more qualified to serve at this time. More, I believe he would have a far greater chance of winning in November than Hillary. Her "negatives" are such that I think she would struggle to achieve victory. I think she could win, but it would be close.
