2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAfrican-American Male, Early Voter, Super Tuesday State
I reside in a Super Tuesday state, and I just early voted on the first day of early voting in my state for Senator Bernie Sanders.
I have been paying attention to politics for as long as I can remember, and I was sold on Senator Sanders from the moment that he decided that he would give a run for it. I hope that any black progressives reading this post will join me in voting for Senator Sanders. To me, his candidacy is transformational (even more than President Obama's), and I honestly believe that if we really want our country to be better, we have to be serious about the candidate that we bring into the general election. To me, the two characteristics that always influence my vote for any candidate are honesty and consistency. Bernie Sanders has been both of these for all of his political life.
To me, Senator Sanders is the only serious choice for not only our party, but also for our country.

I believe that Michael Bloomberg believes this too (hence his threatening to run if Hillary doesn't win the nomination).
Thanks for sharing your story.

(5,857 posts)African American male voting for Sanders in NY. I have had to regulate some Rush Limbaugh types who took umbrage with my Bernie bumper sticker. For some reason they thought they could give me their ignorant opinion, but were surprised when I told them to fuck off. Definitely feeling the Bern. Those knuckle heads know I do now too.
The Sanders campaign collected 85,000 petitions in NYS to get him on the ballot. Clinton collected 70,000
NY is off to a good start

(15,435 posts)but I most certainly feel you've made the CORRECT decision. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND why any POC or for that matter any person who's been continually and constantly screwed over by a Democratic Party that has changed SO DRAMATICALLY since the 80's and has left it's base with nothing but rhetoric as we tried to tell ourselves it wasn't happening.
Seems that so many of the once Great Democratic Leaders slowly morphed into what the old Republican Party was. Amazing how the American people continually vote for those who care nothing about them!
I've said this too many times now, but if SHE'S the nominees I'll have to vote for her, but then SHE CAN HAVE her Party! I'm no longer willing to play their game much less give them support. They'll have ALL THE POWER anyway. They won't be needing us anymore and a once GREAT AMERICA will keep putting band aids on the HUGE GAPING holes that has begun to swallow it up.
Thank you for your thoughtful post.
