EDIT: At least in El Paso, I don't have much experience with other communities.

(47,209 posts)It's also a famous song lyric and the R is there.

bettyellen
(47,209 posts)the dozen or so latino communities I have worked with used it- frequently. the R was always pretty strong. It's not phonetic, it is ignorance of the language.

(154,021 posts)she lied to that kid. There is nothing she can do at present to change that deportation order. NOTHING, Not one bit.
And it turned my stomach. The fact that she is willing to make that an add will not play well, because people who have contact with La Migra know better. And some of their family members do vote.

A todo esto, la palabra es "mentirosa", no "mentidosa".

(154,021 posts)and that alone is despicable.
Y si hablo español. Y lo escribo tambien. Esto dice mas acerca de ti, y la politica que tu apoyas

(9,967 posts)Conjugating with Vos
It would be much easier if all one had to do to speak Castellano were change the tú to vos. But as luck would have it, the verbs are also different. For example, in most Spanish-speaking countries to ask where a person is from you would say ¿De donde eres tu? In Castellano its ¿De donde sos vos? Notice that the two verbseres and sosare completely different.
There arent too many verbs that change so drastically. In most cases, its the accent and maybe a missing vowel that accounts for the difference between tú verb forms and vos verb forms. Actually, the vos verb forms are easier. Drop the final -r on the verb, add an -s, and put the accent on the final syllable. Simple.
Verb Vos Tú
ser (to be) vos sos tú eres
estar (to be) vos estás tú estás
tener (to have) vos tenés tú tienes
querer (to want) vos querés tú quieres
venir (to come) vos venís tú vienes
decir (to say) vos decís tú dices
pensar (to think) vos pensás tú piensas

Castellano and Spanish are the same thing.

Beacool
(30,253 posts)Argentines don't call it "español", they call it "castellano" because the "vos" is old Castilian. The only ones who I have heard used the "vos", aside from Argentines, are people from Uruguay (it used to be part of Argentina) and the region of Antioquia in Colombia. If you're familiar with the singer Juanes, he uses the "vos" too.
By using the familiar "vos" instead of "tu", verbs are not conjugated the same.
For example:
Tu piensas - Vos pensas
Tu quieres - Vos queres
Spanish is not as simple as some people deem it to be.
Beacool
(30,253 posts)I learned Spanish in Argentina, they don't use the "piensas" because they use the "vos" instead of the "tu". I went to high school in Buenos Aires and I'm equally fluent in both languages.
