2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI wish Delores Huerta had been proven right.
I'm a Bernie supporter and I wish that a handful of Berniebros - those guys we've all been hearing about - had gotten over zealous or angry or stupid and said those things rather than discover that Huerta had lied...or 'misspoke' if you prefer a softer term.
I'm 60 and over the past couple of years several public figures who I've admired have said and done things that have shown an ugly side and, selfishly, I'm tired of having my list of admired persons reduced yet again.
But it was not the truth. Videos prove it. Susan Sarandon, who was there, said it didn't happen. Dolores Huerta herself has walked back the story.
So another person who has done many admirable things has been subverted, and the list has shrunk. Oh, and I don't believe in Berniebros any more either - I'm thinking they're sort of like the tooth fairy and Easter bunny.

Hillbots could care less how CORRUPT are the Clintons... pitiful

(40,656 posts)she did. She did it to herself. I have no pity. This is too important for me to give her a pass, pity or whatever. She jumped on this herself and she bears full and total responsibility. If she wanted to be the person we all thought she was she should have acted accordingly but apparently she isn't. She owns her actions and the aftermath.

(2,586 posts)Then the Sanders campaign would have had to address what some supporters were doing was not in their campaign's best interest. Bernie Bros. would be real. And Sanders would be perceived as the Donald Trump of the left.
But sadly (to the determent of some) none of it is true.

(4,373 posts)she was a fearless and passionate leader for farm workers and I really didn't want to believe she would lie about something as important as this, something that would paint an entire group of people as racists (as well as the candidate they support).
It might not make sense, but part of me wishes she had been telling the truth rather than know that she chose to be untruthful to garner support for Hillary.

Unfortunately some very public figures - icons - have been getting in this game.
This doesn't portend well for the future under a possible Hillary Clinton admin. If this is a taste of it, what will it be like? 8 fricken YEARS of top down leadership that habitually engages in this kind of despicable slanderous behavior, that gets others to engage in it for them, that drags the whole Dem party down into the lowest Rovian/Brockian muck - and it's aimed at the left of her own party.
The glee about this lie shown by her DU supporters, their refusal to take it back. The relentless hammering of Bernie Sanders on race, the deliberate creation of racial divisions and race hatred, creating a FUD to cover the substantive approaches of each candidate to real and important issues.
No, I don't wish Huerta had been proven right. I wish she hadn't been caught out as willing to play a part in a pattern of race-based lies. There are no exemptions to exonerate that kind of behavior, and esp. not in a highly charged political contest that has national and international attention.
