(4,551 posts)Also wish we had Ted Kennedy, but he left us this example of how to take down Mitt, and THIS is what Obama & Biden need to do NOW:

(2 posts)To hell with this Big Bird crap. It's ridiculous.

(5,842 posts)when Mitt specifically went after PBS funding as a whole during the debate.
The better argument would be showing just how little the deficit would be affected by Mitt cutting funding for PBS (or any other art-related programs) compared to the real imbalances that exist in Mitt's budget
Instead, Obama wants to focus on Mitt "killing" a specific character on a specific show. The problem is that by any budgetary standard (and per their own press releases) Sesame Street is economically self-sustainable and will continue to exist w/out difficulty whether it receives PBS funding or not.

(2,391 posts)For years, the RW has focussed on cutting PBS, but they never dared to put a face on that proposal. They never dared personalize it for millions. They always called it either PBS or, better yet, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. So much more impersonal. They knew better than to make it something millions would relate to. Something that would catch their interest in a way that they felt a strong connection to a proposed budget cut. Something they wouldn't protest.
Something like the face of a beloved icon. Something like Big Bird. They finally slipped up and put a face on that budget cut. And we have Willard to thank for that colossal screw-up.
This isn't about Big Bird. It's about PBS and NPR. Big Bird brings that message home to milions. It's called target marketing and it's incredibly successful. The numbers comparisons are being made, it's not necessary in brief commercials or soundbites. This issue has legs. It also has a face. And it's working or Willard wouldn't be bitching about it now.

(2,391 posts)Wouldn't want to highlight the absurdity of the only budget cut Willard has announced being the tiny sliver that is the PBS budget vs. the $4 BILLION in annual subsidies for the oil companies who already have record profits.
Two posts. Both highly critical of Obama. Didn't know that Tim Russert has been dead for four years.
You sure you're not lost?

(4,551 posts)Not sure where he's going after that.
I would assume Obama will ask him to come to OHIO if the polls stay narrow there.

(35,361 posts)lost. You would not believe the anti-Obama signs here every other yard has a fire Obama sign. Our Democrat Congressman that lost in 2010 and is trying to get back in won't even put an Obama sign in his yard. There better be one hell of a lot of Obama votes coming out of the rest of the state.

(4,551 posts)Obama has a solid lead in Ohio all year in every pollster.
He was on track to easily winning it until this past week.

(35,361 posts)about 2/3 Democrat. I haven't been out of this part of the state in the last couple months. So maybe there is a lot more enthusiasm elsewhere but from here it looks very bad. Obama is not liked in eastern Ohio because we have been bombarded by Bob Murray's "War on Coal" and also what used to be our largest employer was liquidated a few weeks ago and nobody absolutely nobody even gave it lip service.
