Suffolk University pollster David Paleologos said Tuesday that hes stopped polling Florida, Virginia and North Carolina because hes already concluded that President Barack Obama will lose those swing states.
In places like North Carolina, Virginia and Florida, weve already painted those red. Were not polling any of those states again. Were focusing on the remaining states, Paleologos told Fox News Bill OReilly.
The remark surprised OReilly.
Thats interesting. Let me stop you there. Youre convinced, your polling agency is convinced that Florida, North Carolina and Virginia are going to go for Romney? OReilly said.
Thats right, and heres why. Before the debate the Suffolk poll had Obama winning 46 to 43 in the head-to-head number, a poor place to be for a couple of reasons, said Paleologos, director of Suffolk University Political Research Center.
He continued: Number one, his ballot test, his head-to-head number was under 47 [percent] before the debate and its very difficult when you have the known quantity, the incumbent, to claw your way up to 50. So that was a very, very poor place for him to be. And so were looking at this polling data not only in Florida but in Virginia and in North Carolina and its overwhelming.
Recent polling since last weeks presidential debate in Denver has shown GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney closing the gap with Obama.

(1,295 posts)Not only is Gary Johnson and Jill Stein on the ballot...but Virgil Goode is as well...
Unless there is a breakout one way or the other, no one is getting to 50%. Goode is pretty popular in his home base and could pull 4% or more of the vote statewide...
He also commits the sin of assuming his poll is the definitive one. Obama's number is some polls pre debate were over 50%...

(5,008 posts)But I have a bad feeling about Virginia. It is feeling red to me in my area. Last time around it was different. . Hope Northern Va is still strong.

(6,336 posts)I know that Southwest VA is VERY red, but Obama also lost the area by 20 points in 2008.
I think that VA will go Blue and that Kaine also wins the senate seat.

(2,117 posts)Perhaps Suffolk is skewing as well, since they had Obama in the lead in the only VA survey they took.

(5,636 posts)"I think all three of those states are still toss-ups," Public Policy Polling's Tom Jensen told us. "Weve already polled Virginia since the debate and Obama was up by 3. I dont agree with his assessment, and I dont know why he would have made it without even conducting any polling after the debates."
Gary Langer, who runs the ABC News/Washington Post poll, quipped tartly, "With that kind of foresight, we should find out who he likes in the fifth at Aqueduct."
SurveyUSA CEO Jay Leve was harsher. "This guy from Suffolk is obviously a jackass," he said.
