Ok, I have a question for the GDP board posters ...

I usually avoid GDP but do check in from time to time.

Today I checked in and as usually happens was soon asked to serve on a jury... and I almost ruled on it, but the comment included the word "Berniebros" and decided to opt out of the jury because I have no idea what that means or refers to.

I scanned the entire first page of posts to GDP and didn't see it anywhere, so now I'm really curious...

Is that some sort of slur or insult? What does it mean?

Thanks
Kelley

Reminds me of the old joke.

'Pardon me, can you tell me how to get to Carnegie Hall?'

'Practice.'

To me, a berniebro can mean a Sanders supporter. I think that's how the term originated. Or it can mean a Sanders supporter who is self-righteously indignant toward anyone who doesn't support Sanders. That's how the term is used in a disparaging manner. Not to be confused with a Hillbot. Or Hill$hill. Hope this helps a bit.

Whatever the specific reference, it is meant to portray Bernie supporters in a negative light?

Oh and thanks for the NYC joke.. I'm a fiddle player and will definitely be telling that one at the next jam!

It think now it's a little bit like 'teabaggers.' It started out being a self-described name for tea party people. But then it quickly was coopted by people making fun of them. So they didn't like that term any more.

Another variation on the joke, or maybe a better way to tell it is as follows: A nice couple is visiting New York City for the first time. They have a map and they're looking for directions. They stop a New Yorker and ask 'Pardon me sir. Can you please tell us how to get to Carnegie Hall?' The guy thinks for a second and replies 'Practice, practice practice!'

If you're a Hillary supporter it's seen as a personal attack.

If you're a Bernie supporter it's embraced and even welcomed by some, others don't seem to like it.

IMO we should all stop calling each other names.

It plays off of what a "Bro" is. To put this simply, a Bro would be a young male who follows the "Bro Code". http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Bro+Code

The BernieBro meme is claiming that these are typical of people who support Bernie and therefore it is implied that Bernie's supporters are sexist.

Manny Goldstein, a person who was banned from DU, used that term all the time when referring to his followers. I always wondered about that guy.

...either an enthusiastic and comradely Bernie fan, or a misogynistic white male Bernie fan.

Whenever the term is used by Hillary supporters, Bernie fans assume it to be the latter usage.

Essentially, it is the tiny subset of Camp Sanders that rests its support of him on hatred for Clinton, a misogynist crossover with Men's Rights Activism and Gamergate type mentality.

Sanders himself has denounced the "Bros" and wants them out of his campaign.
