2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHilary's BLM response, "I've never been asked that before." No script=no answer
Like with everything unscripted with her, she can't answer until her advisors, focus group and attorney craft a response.
It was this way when the first questions with the private server were asked.
It was this way with the release of the transcript request.
Here, the young woman asked simply if black peoples were owed an apology. Hillary could not answer, not without her minders.

(1,134 posts)It was a kind of put-down as well as no script = no answer. And Clinton became immediately bombastic, "Let's get back to the issues that are important..."

(7,231 posts)So much for caring for People of Colour. Hi, I said you are superpredators, I have impoverished your communities, locked you up for recreational marijuana use, support the death penalt that disproportionally affects your communities, but all of that doesn't matter. Your lives don't matter to me, just your votes. Because you are my firewall.
And that is the woman Debbie wants as our nominee? Is she out of her DINO-mind?

(24,411 posts)what she would be like in a debate with Trump? She would most likely unravel at the seams. Bernie, on the other hand, would obliterate him.
Clinton is scripted down to the word. If she's not, she morphs into a walking, talking disaster. Just look at her response to Bernie when he asked her about her Wall Street donations. Invoking 9/11? Holy shit.
She's scripted like a Hollywood actor, but she's also not used to anyone challenging her. She surrounds herself with sychophants who cater to her narcissism. Her campaign, and her life, are lived out in a bubble.
Reason 23,546 that she is a complete disaster.
merrily
(45,251 posts)That was not even a face to face debate. She and Bill both went silent. No comeback from either of them. I think it will either be like that, or she will go out of control.
CoffeeCat
(24,411 posts)Bernie has been a true gentlemen. Some could argue that he's given HRC a free pass.
Trump will not be giving HRC a free pass. You won't hear, "I'm tired of hearing about your damn emails" come out of Trump's mouth.
She is not good on the fly. She's especially awkward when someone is calling her out.
Let's hope that America has some kind epiphany and realizes that HRC as our nominee is a vote for Trump as President.

(5,856 posts)We are not allowed to criticize her because:
1. She's a woman
2. She's the front runner
3. The Republicans do it
4. We shouldn't use her own words against her.
5. If its negative, it's a lie.

(5,856 posts)but not sure that this list is a straw man when I've seen it with my own eyes. Yet I am surprised that you didn't point to her superior poll numbers as a means to deflect from her shortcomings; shouldn't you rely on the ignorance of the populace as a defense?

How dare she PREPARE for something that important? I guess people should not study for exams either. If they study it's too scripted.
Back to the drawing board as this is a major fail.
morningfog
(18,115 posts)Absolutely she must be prepared for that type of hearing and she was. She did great. She was very well prepared.
Which is my point. When prepared, she does fine. Debates, hearings, speeches, etc.
When she is asked spontaneous, unexpected questions, like the BLM question, she falters.
There is no drawing board but in your mind.

(34,109 posts)Every person I have ever known that simply could not or would not apologize does so because they meant what they said and do not feel like they owe anyone anything. If pressured to apologize you get the non-apology apology.
If someone actually cares that something they said or did hurt someone else an apology comes naturally and with great remorse.

Piling on Hillary for events that happened in the 90's is absurd. In case you forgot or were too young to remember, that era did have significant problems with crime and most everyone thought getting tough on crime was an important thing to do. Was her comment racist? Not really, at least in light of the fact that some kids were indeed doing a lot of nasty things. So let us stop beating her up, she is going to be our nominee despite Bernie's amazing run. If you want to elect Trump, keep this stuff up. As a 60 year old liberal, the last thing I want to do is see him become POTUS. We can still love Bernie and vote for Hillary. Grow up people.

(3,366 posts)Not when she is running for President and that is part of her record. It would be absurd NOT to talk about it.

I'm not too young, and haven't forgotten, thanks anyway.
Was her comment racist? Not really, at least in light of the fact that some kids were indeed doing a lot of nasty things.
Not really? In light of the fact that they deserved it?! Does that excuse her talking about kids -- even those doing nasty things -- like they are DOGS?
So let us stop beating her up, she is going to be our nominee despite Bernie's amazing run.
In your opinion. It is my mission to nominate Sanders, not coddle Hillary.
If you want to elect Trump, keep this stuff up.
If you want to elect Trump -- or any Republican -- nominate Hillary.
As a 60 year old liberal, the last thing I want to do is see him become POTUS.
As a 63-year-old progressive, the last thing I want to do is see Hillary as the Dem nominee.
We can still love Bernie and vote for Hillary. Grow up people.
Hey, let's just skip the primaries and go straight to the GE. OK Mommy!

(15 posts)At some point the Bernie Bots have got to understand that if you do not end up supporting the winner even if Bernie loses, then you are voting for Trump. So, are you going to have a tantrum if Hillary gets the nod and then not vote for her? If you say yes, you are a traitor to the Democratic Party and everything we stand for and have stood for since you and I were kids. If you accept who ever wins and fight hard for them to beat Trump, then you will be a true Democrat. It is your choice but make the right one. Our lives are close to ending, our kids lives are at stake here.

(15 posts)But the deck is stacked and you can hope all you want but Hillary is going all the way and then what are you going to do? As for condescending, grow a pair. This is high stakes poker and if the left decides to cry in their beer because Saint Bernie did not win, then you are giving it to Trump and he will get FOUR SCOTUS picks. Are you that irrational? I hope not.

(37,748 posts)I think it's wonderful that so many posters are interested in black lives and black culture and black concerns for the very first time.
It's only a coincidence that Sanders is attempting to court the black vote and having a difficult time doing so. It's also a coincidence that after the primary, that very same interest will fade away.
