A simple question for the Clintons.

You've come out against Bernie's plan for free college tuition at public colleges and universities because rich people like you don't that benefit and it would be unfair to those who aren't rich if rich kids received a free college education.

Here's my question: to which public colleges and universities did Chelsea apply? We know she went to Stanford. I know she applied to Wellesley, because my daughter, who is the same age, was told by the admissions people when she visited Wellesley.

In my decades of experience working in higher education, rich kids usually don't go to public colleges, they go to private schools, which would be ineligible for this program. There's free K-12 education available to all children, but how many rich kids attend those? Chelsea didn't. The rich rarely use free, public services. By making college free to all, it becomes a right for all citizens. If it's means-tested it becomes a welfare program.

made by rich people in defense of denying others fair treatment

the latest spin i heard on DU yesterday was that Bernie's tuition plan a "tax on middle class 401Ks." Sounds an awful lot like the "death tax" frame.

the Clintons are doing nothing more than protecting the 1% by continuing to pit the middle against the bottom

Much of the "tax only the rich" rhetoric on DU is in regards to the vast amount of public resources used by the rich and their corporations: roads, bridges, public airwaves, etc.

I think many DUers would argue that the rich actually use MORE free public services and resources than the rest of us.
