A Very Gentle Reminder for My Fellow Sanders Supporters

While we all advocate strongly for our candidates, I think we should all keep in mind that outside of the active primary period, DU has been 95%+ supportive of Hillary when she is under attack from FOX and the GOP with Benghazi and all that, so some on DU may be struggling with the more mixed tone of DU right now.

Hillary has been under constant attack for decades so it stands to reason that her campaign is attracting and retaining people who identify with that. In other words people who feel attacked or empathize with those who are, and are very sensitive to it such that they may over react to all criticism or perceived criticism of Hillary.

Those who are the most sensitive or who simply aren't in the mood for GD-P may choose to post in the Hillary Group. That is their choice. Just as it is the choice of anyone on DU to post in a Group versus the more general forums.

It is inappropriate to go into ANY group just to tell them how wrong you think they are.

I see a lot of long time DUers who are now one hide away from PPR. This atmosphere isn't good for any of us. Yes it is primary season but "good fences make good neighbors" and we should respect the boundaries that others choose for themselves as well as avoiding over stepping the limits of civility that we place on ourselves.

My humble recommendations:

Don't go into Groups that you are not supportive of. If you want to argue do it in GD-P or GD.

If a thread makes you too angry to respond in a thoughtful or productive way, hit the "trash" button.

If you find yourself in a grudge match with someone on DU, consider using "ignore."

Avoid sarcasm since it is mocking, can be bullying and is very easily misunderstood as 180-degrees the opposite of what you have in mind. Rephrase from what you don't believe is true to what you DO believe.

Don't start none, won't be none.

Fight the good fight but leave the dirty fight to their candidate. Let that distinction be all theirs.

Then they have to own it.

People loved Sanders wordless ad. The TVs in primary states are jammed with GOP guys' ads screaming at each and then on comes Sanders ad, just music. The very format says "this guy is different."

And I think you win by being the calmer person who has facts on your side.

They are bed hogs, too. They're both 4 years old, brother & sister. We named them Gladys & Abner after the Kravitz's on "Bewitched".

Same litter, going on 6 YO. I trained them not to bed hog early. It has been a special treat to have them live together. There is a beautiful kind of balance they seem to give each other.

It become a billboard rather than a forum.

Further, I don't think that we need instructions on how to post on DU.

if you find their headlines particularly flame-baity. I did that, and what a difference it makes. Also keeps me from being tempted to respond where I'm not welcome, which keeps me from getting a lot of hides.

...is very different from pointing out the bullshit nature of Fox/GOP talking points.

Or it certainly should be. There's no need to ninja one's way into groups. Anything salient should be posted here in GD .

What's the point when I can discuss things here in GD: P? Aren't groups created for those that associate with that group? I don't even bother to peruse it silently.

but I saw many complaints about being banned from that group, and one thread from someone who started to talk in GD-P about stuff posted in that group (because they had been banned there), so I thought this was worth mentioning in an OP.

Especially the part about protected groups.

With this exception - deliberate lies, unsubstantiated memes du jour, or psy-ops tactics WILL be met with the mockery and derision it deserves.

I think sarcasm is a quagmire in general because of the saying the opposite of what you mean + internet therefore lack of facial and voice inflection clues = high potential for misunderstanding.

Didn't mean to say that we should not be calling bullshit on bullshit or not answering lies with truth. Just that mockery and tone can sometimes get in the way of getting the truth across. That is sometimes. Other times all you can do is laugh.
