2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumProposal to sway Hillary to release the Goldman-Sachs Transcripts
Just at the start of the next debate, Bernie's opening remark is:
"Before we go any further, Hillary, you truly do need to stop hiding from the American people what you told Goldman Sachs for a payment of $675,000. I have released all transcripts of speeches that I have. If the Republican candidates at a later point refuse to make public their speeches to banks, there is no reason for you to sink to their level -- as a prospective president, you need to rise to a higher level! If they refuse to do the right thing, that doesn't mean you should too!"
If you do not agree right now to release the speech transcripts, I SHALL IMMEDIATELY WALK OFF THE STAGE!"
And then Hillary would make her choice.
Whatever the choice made, the media would be bound to take notice.

(25,253 posts)I don't think walking off the stage accomplishes anything. He just needs to stand there and wait for her answer. Which I don't think she'll be prepared for. We'll just get the typical Hillary laugh treatment and she'll just change the subject to something she can attack Bernie with.

To let the voters know how important an issue this is
To catch the notice of the media, with Hillary fearing how it will be reported.

(10,476 posts)Sanders is a far better person than that, which is why it won't happen.
The transcripts only matter to those who are voting for Sanders anyways, the rest of us do not care.

(1,825 posts)about impropriety as you are. Why do you suppose your beloved Hillary is at a 53% disapproval rating? You see, people don't like it when politicians have something to hide (you of course don't mind).
And by the way, we shall be needing the support of at least some of the independents come November.

(25,253 posts)As a voter I want as much information about the candidates so I can make an informed decision. This decision is a really important decision to me. I want to know if a candidate is telling me one thing and saying something different to the Bankster's. I don't want to find out after the fact that a candidate took me as a sucker or fool if that is what they were doing.
I don't think you want to be taken as a fool - so I don't know why you would accept blindly that there is nothing in those transcripts that can ultimately come back and have an impact on you. Wouldn't you feel more committed to Hillary - if she released those transcripts and it backed your feelings about Hillary. Right now as you walk into that voting booth - there will be that lingering thought in the back of your mind - what if I'm wrong about Hillary?

(25,253 posts)leaves a lot of fodder for her to use to pick at Bernie.
I think the voters know how important an issue this is - particularly if the words you used in your OP are said.
I think the fact that Sanders would put it to Hillary as you outlined will catch notice of the media and this is whether Bernie stays on stage or walks off.
I think it is beyond Sanders character to do a walk off. He is not Trump and I don't think he would engage in anything so dramatic like walking off. Kind of equivalent to a mike drop.
That's just my opinion. I think Bernie and his supporters need to keep up the pressure on Hillary to release those transcripts. Her sandbagging that effort is answer enough for me and it is very telling of the type of character Hillary has.
