2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDid Hillary Clinton Just Put Bernie Sanders 2016 on Life Support?
Clinton owed much of her victory Saturday to minority voters in South Carolina, where she won African Americans by 68 points, 84% to 16%, including 96% of African American voters over 65 who went for the former Secretary of State almost unanimously.
At her victory party in Columbia, S.C., Clinton told supporters, "You sent a message that when we stand together there is no barrier too big to break," she said. "Tomorrow this campaign goes national. We are not taking anything, and we're not taking anyone, for granted."
Perhaps sensing the blowout coming for him, Sanders had moved on to Texas Saturday morning by the time South Carolina voting began. Shortly after the polls closed, the Sanders campaign released a written statement declaring that the race is only just beginning, despite mounting evidence to the contrary, "Our grassroots political revolution is growing state by state, and we won't stop now," Sanders said.

(3,666 posts)Bernie and his brigades have had their fun, gotten their issues a hearing, and even won a primary.
Time to get to work. Let's nominate somebody who can actually win a national election.

(704 posts)The last thing that they or certain cultists who worship at the throne of Hillary want is a real contest of ideas.
They just want it over--and fast.
But Bernie's supporters aren't going anywhere.
Sorry.
What none of you get is it's more than just the primary.
Bernie is our voice. That's above politics. Sorry if that's inconvenient for you.
I don't care if it's locked up or not. When I vote in the Pennsylvania primary, I'm voting for Bernie. I'm not going to sit down and shut up because Hillary supporters and corporate stooges would prefer that.
So tell me again how the race is over...do go on.
See how that works for you.

REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
"Certain cultists who worship at the throne of Hillary" is WAY over the top. There are ways to argue positions without resulting to vile insults.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sun Feb 28, 2016, 09:09 AM, and the Jury voted 2-5 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE

Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: So where it the TOS violation? Where is the personal attack? This is one of the most frivolous alerts yet, it's designed to shut down free exchange of ideas, something that should NEVER BE DONE.
Alerter, either debate and debunk the post or grow a thicker skin.
I vote to leave on the grounds of free speech.

(704 posts)It was a broad statement and as you pointed out--no one was personally attacked.
I would expand on what I really mean by that--in a broad way--but I know that it would raise another alert so I'll just leave it alone.
I don't believe that every Hillary supporter is a "cultist" by the way. Let me be clear about that.
As for being broadly offended. I'm offended when I'm told that I have to pack up my vote and go home. It's not needed. Unless it's for Clinton--then yes--by all means give her support.
That's broadly implied in many posts.
But it isn't alert worthy.

(4,311 posts)I would like a rich and varied electorate to have their voices fully heard, and although I support Hillary, I want the Democratic party as whole to choose the nominee, for whom I will happily vote (whichever it turns out to be). A length primary process will strengthen either candidate and allow people to feel like their votes count and their voices are heard. That is the Democratic way. Once it becomes a mathematical inevitability, I would like the losing candidate to bow out gracefully and endorse the winning candidate.
Also, I object to the term "cultist". It's very rude. People have their own reasons for supporting their candidate, and every vote is worthy.

(3,967 posts)"Hillary Clinton, buoyed by a dominating win in South Carolina on Saturday, is opening a dual-track strategy in her bid for the White House, gradually pivoting toward Republicans even as she works to expand her lead across more than a dozen states voting this week."
"The aircraft carrier is definitely shifting to the general election this week," a top Democrat close to Clinton said, speaking on condition of anonymity to avoid getting ahead of the campaign and alienating Democrats who have yet to vote.
"The wide margin of her South Carolina victory accelerates her transition to the general election. Clinton has mentioned Sanders less and less in recent days and in her victory speech targeted Donald Trump, the Republican front-runner."

(4,311 posts)With the point of my post.
In order for Hillary to support my position that the primary process should be rich and substantive, she is not required to ensure Bernie's visibility in the race or in the media. That's Bernie's job. I'd feel exactly the same if their positions were reversed.

(10,751 posts)...when he won big in New Hampshire. Both were expected results, both came in by much higher margins than expected, so both provide great fodder for the news and the pundits. But as always, the latest one is the one that is talked about.
Great win for Hillary. She worked long and hard in this state and it paid off handsomely.
