2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumRyan has become a liability to the Romney campaign
He is clearly no Sarah Palin. He does not have the star power to get
republicans out to the rallies. Sarah's rallies were HUGE.
Romney and Ryan have to rely on mostly mormon crowds and they
have to bus in others and give them instructions on how to be
enthusiastic. Palin never had to give her crowds instructions.
Romney will have to start considering dumping Ryan before
the third debate. He's running out of time.

(1,773 posts)Who would be worth the risk of dumping Ryan?
Palin?
I really don't understand why Ryan and Romney appear to have so much support. I truly dislike Ryan, I think he's an ignorant creep who believes he's gained real knowledge by reading a fricking novel.

LMAO.
Think I now need another large bowl of coconut fudge ice cream.

(8,064 posts)That would really get the republican base enthused and actually coming out to the rallies.
and late night tv would love it!
I think we should start sending email to romney and encouraging
him to dump Ryan and pick up Sarah.
what do you think?

(17,865 posts)I am not sure any VP candidate could have helped Romney. Did you see the clip where the crowd was chanting Ryan, and Romney tries to lead a Romney, Ryan chat? As Joe S. said "Sweet Jesus".
The astounding thing to me is that nearly 50% of the country is ready to vote for Romney with all the baggage. Good lord McCain was ten times the candidate than Romney. Here we have a man who pays half of what most other people pay in federal taxes on a percentage basis, is an economic traitor (assets overseas instead of invested in America), has no set of core beliefs (he makes the windsurfing ad about Kerry look ridiculous by comparison), protested against protesters who thought it was unfair to give those who pass a test a student deferment from Vietnam, obtained his own special ministry deferment so he could avoid fighting in the war he protested for, demonstrated himself as an adult to be a scary pack leading bully (I especially hate those), has some dark secret lurking in his finances that he refuses to share with the voters, has a plan for increased defense spending that will further cripple the budget, and expects the Laffer Curve to work at these already historically low marginal rates.
Also he was the member of a religious body into his 30s that discriminated against blacks in the most important spiritual way in his church.

may as well shore up the black republican vote now!

(13,992 posts)Ryan is indeed a joke.
But I'm afraid that the OP was likely serious in thinking that Romney might cut Ryan loose. Which is itself something of a joke.
So it's kind of multiple choice...

Romney's gonna have to shake up his campaign very soon
after Ryan's dismal performance.
I think it says a lot that Palin was the better debater than
the republicans best "numbers guy".

(8,064 posts)Factcheck.org and others called Ryan out on his lying, constant replays on the cable networks of Ryan stuttering, stammering, and unable to give clear answers is a huge sign of defeat for the Romney campaign.
Romney is going to have to seriously start thinking about dumping Ryan before its too late.

But as many people as Palin turned off, I think she attracted the same amount in republican base voters. Ryan just doesn't have that appeal. He is a fast talking used car salesman, just like Mitt. Neither of them project any excitement in the republican ranks. Romney should have picked someone with personality, since that is what Mitt lacks most, in order to get republicans enthusiasm up. Instead, they have rallies where they have to instruct people to be "enthusiastic". They have to tell them when to applaud. And worst of all, in low mormon populated cities, Romney has to bus in supporters to give the appearance that he has a following.
