2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI don't vote for Republicans.
2) I don't vote Republican because they'll put the same megabanks in charge of Treasury that destroyed our economy the last time they were in charge of Treasury.
3) I don't vote Republican because I've always supported gay people's civil liberties and the Republicans who've barely come around to supporting gay marriage this decade are doing so only because the polling now supports it.
4) I don't vote Republican because they keep telling me they "need more research" to believe cannabis is a medicine.
5) I don't vote Republican because they institute terrible "free trade" deals that destroy jobs and wages.
6) I don't vote Republican because they support the increase of fracking worldwide, an environmentally disastrous policy.
7) I don't vote Republican because they don't believe America can be like every other modern democracy and provide universal health care coverage.
8) I don't vote Republican because they enjoy and exploit the campaign finance shenanigans made legal by Citizens United.
9) I don't vote Republican because they think a $15 minimum wage is too high and at best it ought to only be $12.
10) I don't vote Republican because they endorse and approve of NSA's warrantless spying on American citizens.
11) I don't vote Republican because they created and supported the USA PATRIOT ACT that is used far more against drug "crimes" than terrorism.
12) I don't vote Republican because they believe that "the era of big government is over" and work to destroy welfare.
13) I don't vote Republican because they believe in being "tough on crime" to the point of supporting mass incarceration of mostly black and brown people.
14) I don't vote Republican because they use racist dog whistles like calling black kids "superpredators... that [we have to] bring to heel."
15) I don't vote Republican because they opposed closing Gitmo.
16) I don't vote Republican because they want to cut Social Security, or at the very least, refuse to consider lifting the income cap on contributions to make rich people pay their fair share.
17) I don't vote Republican because people with net worth that requires two or three commas to print don't understand what people like me go through living paycheck to paycheck.
18) I don't vote Republican because I can't stand privatized prisons and they take lots of campaign donations from them.
19) I don't vote Republican because if we're not going to have socialism for the poor, why should I support those who voted to bail out the big banks and refuse to break them up?
20) I don't vote Republican because they supported the bankruptcy bill that made it harder for poor working people to discharge debt, while their hyper-rich friends make use of bankruptcy restructuring all the time.
21) I don't vote Republican because they oppose reinstating the Glass-Steagall Act that would separate investment and commercial banking.
22) I don't vote Republican because they support the death penalty.
23) I don't vote Republican because they vote for stupid things like a border fence with Mexico.
24) I don't vote Republican because they get most of their campaign donations from the big banks, instead of typical Democratic sources like unions.
25) I don't vote Republican because they would lock up Edward Snowden and throw away the key.
Those are 25 pretty good reasons why we Democrats don't vote for Republicans, don't you think?
So why would we vote for Hillary Clinton, the Rockefeller Republican who exemplifies every one of those 25 statements?

But at least you'll have your principles. I just hope your kids understand, because, as much as I like Bernie, he's not going to win the nomination.

(4,407 posts)It's the slow-boiled frog thing right now. We keep accepting bigger and bigger "back-end development" because the size increases slowly enough for us to get used to it. With Hillary, we just screwed incrementally more. If, however, things take a drastic turn for the worse, people will be subjected to a discontinuous increase in said screwing and might - just might - do a little clenching.

(34,402 posts)there will be a mass die-off of most species on the planet, including humans. That'll fix 'em! Trouble is, Americans won't be the first to die off--unless the electrical grid collapses--then all bets are off. It won't be us to suffer.
mindwalker_i
(4,407 posts)That is by no means certain and, in fact, I would bet that she would do little to nothing about it. In all fairness, Bernie probably couldn't get anything through but Hillary wouldn't even try - it would upset her donors.

(10,495 posts)about the real problems going on with solar right now. Access fees and other made up fees to discourage solar power by making it less financially beneficial. The electric companies local monopolies refuse to pay anywhere near the wholesale rate (Example: Co. pays 3 cents a kilowatt co-op pays 11 cents/wholesale rate). Hillary took money from Entergy, my power company, so she will never fight this battle. She will spend a lot of tax dollars for a prop, another solar plant we overpay to build and give ownership to Donors.
Bernie plans on FIGHTING CLIMATE CHANGE!!! We need to do what it takes to start reversing climate change, not some gesture, but real change! Our oceans are estimated to be fished out by 2045! That's if the growing acidification and heating doesn't do it first! We need high speed rail powered by wind and solar. Eliminate fracking, carbon tax... Hillary would never do that, nor could she. Bernie can if we back him up, WE HAVE TO WANT IT!!!
mindwalker_i
(4,407 posts)This should be a priority and in truth, it's a hige opportunity to advance our technology, build new businesses, and lead the world - in short, make America great again. Even if Hillary said a bunch of stuff like this, I don't believe she'd follow through once select industries lobbied her.
Bernie may not be able to actually get anything through congress, but he will at least push the issue and get it into the public's mind. That's how things get done, but pushing on them and building movements. Hillary will or already did quit before even starting.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Tue Mar 1, 2016, 07:08 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: why is this an alert?
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Just stop this shit. Anyone who thinks there's no difference between Hillary and any of the cretins left in the clown car is a FUCKING MORON. You may be proud of putting your ignorance on display but we don't really need it here.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: There is nothing wrong with this OP. Jesus H. Christ! Grow the fuck up on these flags.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This is GDrimaries. This and more has been said about both candidates. On DU, Bernie Sanders is a Democrat, too, but there have been many, many posts that state they will not vote for him because he's not a Democrat.
It's not Call Bernie Sanders Names Underground, either, but that doesn't stop anyone from doing that. This is a repost of a Huffington Post article...
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Good post, even if I don't agree with the conclusion.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Is it true? If not challenge it. If it is then what can I say?
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

Strong environmental policy apparently isn't one of them, either.
Guess I might have to join the pro-Hillary crowd, even though I'd be fine with Bernie. Maybe more fine than with Hillary, okay, probably.
I'm just getting real tired of the fucking bullshit from the anti-Hillary crowd.
dogknob
(2,431 posts)This is a list of THINGS ON WHICH SHE APPARENTLY AGREES WITH REPUBLICANS.
MH1
(17,600 posts)Never mind that the republican will GUT women's rights.
So, "dogknob" are YOU in agreement with the full of that P.O.S. article, that is, you are advocating for Democrats to NOT support Hillary in the general election, if she is the nominee? Because that is what this douchebag Russ Belville says in the lead in to that article you posted:
So, I'm really interested to know, are you in agreement with him on that point?
(p.s. I am probably voting for Bernie in the primary, if he's still competitive by the time it gets to my state. If not, I'll write in someone else - this is the primary we're talking about - as a way to express my true choice. But I will definitely be voting for the Democratic Party nominee in November, no matter how many internet trolls try to convince me she's a "republican" or somehow "no different than the republican" or "dishonest" or whatever bullshit lines they try.)
GoneFishin
(5,217 posts)Bernie advocated for industries that put women behind bars for profit like Hillary does with POC.
MH1
(17,600 posts)is talking about the GENERAL election.
Here is what is in the beginning of the article at the link in the OP:
I'll probably vote for Bernie in the primary, too.
BUT GODDAMN I AM FUCKING TIRED OF THE BULLSHIT TRYING TO TEAR DOWN CLINTON.
Is she the BEST Democrat? Not in my book. But to call her a republican and try to persuade people not to vote for her in the general election if she is the nominee just fucking pisses me off.
Yes that moron does not give a SHIT about women's rights because even if that were the ONLY thing that made Hillary better than the republican, in the general election it is a SUFFICIENT reason to vote for her and NOT try to defeat her and elect the republican instead, like that douchebag seems to be advocating.
Loudestlib
(980 posts)You can't blame people for rightfully feeling disenfranchised.
MH1
(17,600 posts)Problem is, the author of the article in the OP probably isn't going to change his tune. He's made up his mind that he'll throw us all under the bus rather than dirty his pure little index finger with a vote for Hillary in November, no matter who the nominee is.
Funny thing is, Hillary was never my first choice either, and I also dislike the machinations of the DNC. But I've been in politics a long time and it's old news to me. I still hope Bernie can pull it out, because I think he should be better than Hillary as President. But I tend to think that it was always too long a putt for him coming from his history and where the majority of the country actually is politically.

(2,674 posts)the most important thing a president will do in the next term is appoint Supreme Court replacements. We have several justices who are ready to retire due to old age or poor health. All the things you list hinge on some ruling made by the Supreme court. Do you want another Scalia appointed to the bench? You can kiss the rights to an abortion goodbye! Look how may decisions have been handed down by the last court - Hobby Lobby, Citizens United, Lilly Ledbetter, deleting parts of the voting rights act, it goes on and on. Tomorrow, the court is scheduled to hear an appeal on closing most of the abortion clinics in Texas, with Scalia gone, the appeal has a better chance of pro-abortion ruling. It is so important to have to have a Democrat win the Presidency. I like what Bernie has to say and he is right in so many things, but I don't think he can win in the general election. In November, I will be voting Democrat and hope it is Hillary as I think she has the best chance of winning.

(95 posts)I didn't make it pass the call screener because I said I wanted to ask him about how he felt about the last point in the post. I was curious if he felt the same way as the author about Hillary exemplifying these points. Specifically, if there is any reason to think that she supported building a wall on the border. They told me his program is not the anti-Hillary show... But I wasn't trying to spin it in an anti-Hillary direction, was just genuinely curious.
O well, hope they don't think I'm an ass and block me from calling lol

(2 posts)So Hillary is part DINO. Concur, but...
Say a widget is anything related to entitlements, grants, insurance, programs, laws, legislation, money, wages, etc.
Bernie gets in, asks & fights for 20 widgets, some far fetched maybe, but gets half or 10 done... We all win.
Hillary gets in, strives for 10 widgets, gets 80% or '8'... We all win.
You don't vote (and we know thanks to suppression, electronic voting, etc. we need to have at least 8% more votes, maybe 10M)... Well, we don't get any widgets.
Then, God forbid, the the wrong side gets in. Not only do you receive NO widgets, but your last remaining old run down widgets may be taken away.
Paul Weyrich summed it up when he said he didn't want more people to vote. Because the minority (R) would win.
VOTE. Vote proudly. Vote for the Supreme Court. Vote swallowing your pride. Vote for your children and their children. Vote for the environment. Vote if you have to suck it up. Bring 2 people with you. Just VOTE.
