Ugly American gets Schooled in Italy
I just received an email from a dear friend in our Italian sister city. He had just had the displeasure of having to escort a particularly obnoxious visitor from my home town who was relishing our friends’ embarrassingly lavish hospitality. This very wealthy Republican crone began a ride through the countryside with a tirade against President Obama and how he was destroying the American economy. What she must not have realized is that my friend, like almost all of my friends in Italy, is a great supporter of our president. He is also an economist and a professor of economics. He said that he had to decide between making her get out of the car or putting her in her place with his superb grasp of the world economic situation and understanding of all things American. He opted for the latter and I would love to have seen her face as she got an unexpected lecture from a master.
