Does anyone know how much time these guys are spending in the state the next 3 weeks? We need a heavy dose of Clinton there as well.

4. Crowd size can be a mirage.

Oct 2012

I remember the just huge crowds that turned out for Michael Dukakis in 1988, especially in late October -- far surpassing those of George H.W. Bush.

We all got very excited.

I'm not saying it doesn't matter, but crowd size is not necessarily an indicator or how the election is going to turn out.

And, of course, it is far better to have a big crowd for your candidate than a small crowd.

17. They could ...

... but this is such a weird election.

Even I am distrusting polls and I am convinced of the accuracy of scientific polling. But there are so many polls this cycle, I think it is difficult to know which ones are legitimate, which ones are polling enough cell phones, which ones are sampling enough Hispanics, etc.

Also, there was an earlier thread today about yard signs -- where I live in Jefferson County, Colorado, a bellwether county -- there are virtually no Obama yard signs: that doesn't help with enthusiasm, I'll tell you.

And because we have unaffiliated voters at my house, we get a lot of political mail. We have received a slew of Rmoney/Ryan mail -- I think we might have got ONE Obama mailer, maybe.

... whatever the hell that is.

But there are a few folks here at DU who are very concerned about 'concern trolls'.

7. They want to show that Romney is a winner

People like to back a winner. So they give Romney this narrative and people continue to jump off the sinking ship (Obama campaign). They think that will persuade the late deciders to give Romney a chance.

9. Romney's crowds are all smoke and mirrors. Pics of Obama's crowds are all over the internet
Sat Oct 13, 2012, 01:07 PM
Oct 2012

but where are pics of romney's "surging" crowd numbers? answer: they don't exist.
romney is drawing MORMONS and hard core right wingers who hate our first
black president. that's it.

evangelicals who supported mccain are having second thoughts about sending
a fast talking, rich mormon to the white house.

13. you can also watch the crowds. The O crowds take pics, reach out, are very candidate-focused.

The Romney crowds seem like they're on tranquilizers... or just heard a nice sermon at church. NO real enthusiasm for the candidate himself. Watch him work the lines, if he does at all.. no one is striving to touch him, no one is taking pics, It's surreal.

It'd be the difference between going to a Black Eyed Peas concert, and a club with a local cover band.

11. Romney is targeting a firm republican base in Ohio
Sat Oct 13, 2012, 01:42 PM
Oct 2012

He was just in Sidney Ohio...few miles north of Troy Ohio ( *bush loved Troy)....a massive republican base....Sidney is in the middle of farm land off I-75.....even when the industrial manufacturing boom was present in these two towns, and unionized as well...republican votes ruled since Reagan. So...the 8,000 in Sidney...that was half of Sidney's population!
