With the Republican presidential primary devolving into a Jerry Springer episode shot on location at the Thunderdome, its easy to forget the sundry internal dramas playing out among Democrats. While theres an obvious split between the Obama coalition that largely supports Hillary Clinton and the progressiver-than-thou wing that supports Bernie Sanders, there now appears to be a schism-within-a-schism developing between Sanders supporters and progressive saint Senator Elizabeth Warren.
At issue is Warrens failure to endorse Bernie Sanders ahead of Super Tuesday, which supporters feel could have delivered Sanders a victory in the closely-fought Massachusetts primary. RawStorys TBogg collected some Bernie fans reactions from Warrens Facebook page:
Your unwillingness to endorse Bernie prior to Super Tuesday indicates to me that your fear of pressure from Hillary friends on Capitol Hill trumps your commitment to the progressive cause. I have lost faith in you and the DNC.
Elizabeth is there ANY reason on Gods green earth that youre sitting quiet in the corner while Bernie is awaiting your endorsement? Am I missing something here???
Is she really part of the establishment? How can she, as a representative of the people, as a self proclaimed progressive, not publicly endorse Bernie Sanders? Do you think she owes Clinton some political favors? hmmmm.
With every day that passes without your endorsement of Sanders, Wall Street rejoices, and the corporate owned Hillary Clinton is validated. Shame on you.
Sen Warren let all of the progressives down and the country by not endorsing us before Super Tuesday. With her help, we could have and should have won Mass. Why and what does she have up her sleeve???
Karl Roves money? Are you smoking crack? I love Elizabeth and would have supported her over Bernie had she chose to run, but I am deeply disappointed in her for not supporting Bernie when it mattered. She will lose ALL credibility if she supports Hillary at any point as Shillary is tied to Wall Street.

(14,255 posts)I love Warren, and she has her own (valuable to all of us) political career to think about.
Full disclosure - endorsements do not matter to me, not for politicians, not for soda, or anything in between. I figure everybody has their own reasons or fears or objectives or price.
In other words, if Warren endorsed Hillary, I would still be a Bernie supporter, full steam ahead. And I would still vote for Warren, given the chance.
ISSUES, people. Not endorsements, ISSUES. Warren has made it clear, IMO, that she agrees with Bernie on ISSUES.

(42,862 posts)... then I think they wouldn't be so eager and willing to gleefully throw potential allies "under the bus". If they HONESTLY believed that Bernie was going to be the nominee, then they also understand that they'll NEED these groups and individuals to campaign-for and support Bernie during the general election.
So, they're making a very unwise decision in their campaign strategy (because they risk having less support later on from those groups and individuals that they've smeared and trashed) OR ... they already understand that Bernie isn't going to be the nominee, and figuratively throwing someone "under the bus" is just an expression of anger, revenge and sour-grapes.
In my opinion, it's not something that the campaign and supporters of a real contender would be doing.
Oh well. The mistake is theirs to make. The damage has been done, I guess there's no particular reason for them to stop now.
Go, Hillary! We love you!

(35,015 posts)If Bernie can't win the nomination, why bother? I will say this again - this sort of fabricated bullshit will only keep people from voting for Hillary in the GE if she's the nom. Brock is cutting off her nose to spite her face.

(13,424 posts)Bernie needs to tell his supporters to stop acting like Trump's supporters. We're better than that.

(4,753 posts)dirty tricks?
This shit is neither representative of Bernie nor of any Bernie supporter that I know. When shit happens that goes against those realities, I always defer to suspicion of skulduggery during campaign season and I recommend that you do too.

(13,424 posts)It's certainly not much of a leap for some Bernie supporters beyond the restrained confines of DU to pull crap like this, especially for some of the more vocal Bernie supporters I know outside of DU.
Kip Humphrey
(4,753 posts)Including this cycle. Remember the brew-ha-ha over so-called Bernie supporters infiltrating casino employee break rooms in Nurse's Union tees? It turned out to be Hillary supporters pretending to be Bernie supporters. The list goes on and on. Are all dirty tricks initiated by orders from the campaign? No. Some are indeed over-zealous supporters. So, no conspiracy and no theory. I just recommend you take reports of uncharacteristic behaviors with patience (truth usually will prevail eventually) and a large grain of salt.
LonePirate
(13,424 posts)Did you read some of those examples? Hardcore HRC supporters are not going to drag her to filth while criticizing Warren. That sort of HRC hate comes only from Republicans or Bernie supporters. You surely have seen the HRC hate here on DU - and it's worse away from here. Yet somehow you find it easier to believe that hate would not incite this sort of behavior; but dirty tricks disguised as HRC hate from her own supporters is the more reasonable explanation for you. Occam's Razor must not exist in your version of the world.

(4,753 posts)Just because I used the Nevada example does not mean I attribute all dirty tricks to the Hillary campaign. Quite the contrary, Karl Rove is still roaming free (should be in jail but that's another conversation!).

(34,845 posts)In this case, an endorsement to a losing candidate would be seen as the same thing.
Warren is a politician, same as Sanders, same as Clinton, same as the rest of them. Yes, Sanders and Warren have a more populous streak in them, and that's all good, but they still share the same basic attributes as Clinton: they are politicians.

(4,960 posts)Is a newly formed FB page with no likes or friends or anything visible. Sure some people keep some things hidden but everything? Every one? Yeah. This is the work of trolls. Maybe just trolls. Maybe Clinton people. But Bernie people are pretty proud of supporting Sanders and I'm not seeing those people being anything but respectful to Warren.
David Brock -- sounds like you there!

(16,109 posts)trolls will be trolls.
Are there probably a few Sanders supporters who are also douches? Yeah.
Every candidate out there has a few wingnuts in the bucket.
And there is plenty of trolling as well.
I have not seen anything negative here about Warren, but, to be fair, I do not read each and every post.
Yo_Mama_Been_Loggin
(107,986 posts)Not unlike many of the newly formed DU accounts supporting Bernie Sanders. I don't doubt that many of them are GOP sock puppets it's just that I see so many long time DUers agreeing with the crap they post.

But as usual, camp Weathervane doesn't really care about accurate presentation of the opposing side's positions.

(1,377 posts)getting stupi. Post after post are articles telling me how people on twitter/facebook said xyz and they are xyz? How is this even a thing? I saw a few weeks ago 1000s of tweets from Latinos(if you go by the name and photo of twitter account) saying Donald Trump was the 2nd coming of Christ and would save America. So Why is a bunch of DUers here posting this crap if it supports there candidate. Should I now read Twitter and decide my canidate based on what a supposed person on twitter said? If that is case Trump would have my vote because Latinos think he is great...
This is mostly HRC supporters I see, so I might be biased so if you have Sanders things where they are saying Hillary supporters did xyz on twitter so it must be true post the links so I may see.
