Pulling for a contested Republican Convention

It would be a astoundingly fun for us Dems, if the Republican Convention were contested.

Can you imagine the unseemly jockeying that would be going on day after day night after night? Can you imagine the raucous floor fights? The streets of Cleveland filled with protests by enraged supporters of Trump? A bunch of angry, downtrodden Republicans, being screwed by the man. Maybe they would echo the cries of the long-haired radicals of old -- "The whole world's watching! The whole world's watching!" Would the Cleveland police department behave as badly as Richard Daly's police did back in Chicago in '68?

Just for the political theater of it, I'd love to see it. Not to mention the damage it would do to the Republican Party!

With Romney's speech today, it seems pretty clear that a contested convention is the Repugnant establishment's favorite play for stopping Trump. They need the cooperation of the three non-Trump candidates though. if Kasich, Rubio, and Cruz are in on the deal, they probably had a conference call earlier today agreeing not to contest the winner take all states like Florida and Ohio against each other, but only Trump.

I can see it now. They agree to leave Florida to Rubio, Ohio to Kasich, etc, divide up the remainder of the winner take all states between them, according to who has the best chance to take down Trump in a one on one contest. They also agree to compete against each other and against Trump collectively in the proportional states.

They will sort out who gets what in return, once they prevent Trump from gaining a majority of delegates, but instead collectively control the majority among the three of them. One of them is President. Another is VP, the third gets his choice of cabinet posts, perhaps.

Yes it would piss the Trumpets off mightily. But the powers that were seem to view Trump as the coming of Armageddon. And they will pay any price to stop it.

Watch for signs of this strategy in tonight's debate.

I don't want to wish that even on concealed carry lunatics.

But a lot of chair throwing might be entertaining.

These people that support Trump are not the civil kind and will actually fight if they feel like their vote is not being counted. Any strategy to maneuver against Trump would result in him creating his own party and effectively throwing the election to the Democrats.

If your scenario is true, how I would love to be a fly on the wall when they try to decide who is going to be president behind close doors.

In this case the voter turnout because of Trump, kind of worries me...

I wonder if we both Sen. Sanders and Sec. Clinton supporters are living in a bubble about this whole thing

i don't doubt it. But he would be beaten, and beaten badly. But it would be an ugly ugly election, presaging the emergences of an openly fascistic party. Not a majority party. But a loud and determined one.

But the Republican powers that were seem like they will do ANYTHING to stop him.

I am glad that you paint Trump as a Fascist, that is so true especially when considering the rise of Fascism in Germany

I wish the American media would call him what he, Le Pen and all the other movements right now around the world are

Fascists

And "Little Rubio" is basically lazy and not very bright so he's not someone I'd want to see president either. Any way you cut it, if the Republicans manage to win we're in big trouble.

I keep being surprised how Trump can spin or not spin insane comments.

of course Rubio doesn't seem to be liked by the Republican base either, just a weird situation all around on the other side... I agree, all the Republicans are scary (of course that has been true my whole life since Reagan)

I agree to not run in Florida if you agree to not run in Ohio.

But then I think "what if I don't run in Florida and you do but don't win (this is WTA; you MUST come in first)? I gave up the opportunity to win an additional State and you didn't slow Trump down. Maybe I should change my mind?"
