2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTwo Hillary flyers in the mail
One about gun laws, and one about her experience and wanting to continue President Obama's work. Why two in one day?
I guess they know we have a primary coming up.
Still voting for Bernie. I wonder if I will get a flyer from him. I have never changed my vote because of a flyer. I wonder how well they work? My feeling is that they probably work to simply get people out to the polls more than they work to change votes.

(51,122 posts)The vast majority of Democrats assume she will be nominee, so some of them don't bother to vote.
This is the reason Democratic numbers have been low. This will change in the GE.

(22,336 posts)unlike here, I think most Dem. voters don't care that intensely whether Bernie or Hillary gets the nomination. I prefer Bernie, but I like Hillary too and I'd be fine with her. I think there are more voters like me than like the louder ones at DU. And if you don't care that much, you're more likely to not bother to vote.
But yeah they'll show up in November. I have no doubt.

(22,336 posts)She supported the Brady Bill, while Bernie voted against it 5 times; she voted with President Obama to make gun manufacturers accountable when their weapons kill people, while Bernie voted with the NRA to give gun manufacturers immunity from lawsuits; and she supports closing "the Charleston Loophole" while Bernie voted to create it.
I must admit to not being on top of this issue enough to know whether the wording of the flyer is fair. I do care about gun violence but I guess I trust that Bernie is a nice person who isn't going to put the gun lobby ahead of people, regardless of what the flyer says.

(594 posts)There are very few differences between Hillary and Bernie on guns. He supported much of the Brady Bill, but it was a bill with many provisions, some of which he did not support, so he voted no. It is the one issue where she can argue being (barely) to the left of Sanders, so she clings to it. Nevermind the fact that she is literally taking money from the gun lobby at the moment.

(594 posts)the NRA putting up fliers with Clinton receiving money from NRA lobbyists because fliers cost money to make? That's a huge stretch. And again, he has no control over what the NRA does. She has complete control over who she takes money from.
