(44,130 posts)Obviously I do not know where the investigation will go. But the main folks in the media promoting it 'Clinton indictment' in the media are the same right-wing hacks who've promoted lots of shit that isn't true.

(1,384 posts)It seems timed to do the most damage to Hillary (emails have come out the day before a primary several times ). It's almost as if someone has a political axe to grind.

(59,503 posts)However, it was only the end of 2014 that HRC returned the "work" emails to the SD, only in March 2015 did everyone learn that she had a private server. Then, maybe to quell the uproar, HRC called on the SD to put them all on line. (Entailing a huge amount of work to avoid putting anything out that should be redacted.) The SD wanted to process everything then in one fell swoop put it online. Various news organizations asked the court to intervene - which they did establishing a schedule with monthly dumps of the email. The SD did not fully meet the schedule - so there were about 4 dates given to the SD to get the remainder of the emails out. All the early dumps were the last work day of the month. The February ones were the last day of the week and the last day of the month.
The BIG problem relative to timing was that HRC did not turn them over when she left. Had she done that, the SD would have had them for the various FOIA -- and it is possible that no one would ever have noticed that she had a private email and almost certainly there would have been no demand to put ALL of them out. Even if someone noticed the address - assuming it was not just H, the answer that she made sure that the emails went to the archives would have made a very different story.
This entire thing was a HUGE effort for the State Department .... and no one is more to blame than HRC. Ironically by wanting to keep control over them, she ended up with far more made public than otherwise. You would think after decades she would learn that trying to hide anything causes trouble.

(13,340 posts)The release of the emails themselves was at least partially dictated by the court's order. And now they are all out there. No possible "April surprise" on that front.
As for the investigation itself? We are at the height of the primary season, so whenever they do something, it will be right before something important. But most people have already decided how they feel about the email situation. Short of an indictment, I can't see any significant impact on the primary. It's baked in.
The fact that the FBI think s they will have the investigation wrapped up by early May tells me that nothing serious is coming out of this.
