2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTo Bernie supporters: Since we're doing indictment what-ifs, I have one I'm curious about
If you think there is a better than 50% chance of Clinton getting indicted at some point, and it doesn't happen before she secures the nomination... would you support a unity ticket of Clinton/Sanders so he can take over if she does get indicted?
Keep in mind that if it doesn't happen at all, he will faithfully serve out his time as her running mate and, hopefully, VP.

(61,619 posts)Washington Post article today quotes legal experts who opine that the investigation is coming to a close, and it's unlikely that Clinton will be indicted or charged with anything:

(14,255 posts)That would just sideline Bernie from his work in Congress.
How can there be a unity ticket? Would I be asked to support just a little war, just a little fracking, just a little Third Way cutting of social programs, just a little TPP, just a few more H-1B visas?
The issues are there, and I do not believe a word that comes out of Hillary's mouth.
So no.

(12,754 posts)Would go for that. Bernie is smarter, more popular, and more principled than she is. That would become painfully evident if he was her VP. All eyes must be on her at all times.

(814 posts)Like one former VP said, "Being VP is like a bucket of warm spit" plus we wouldn't have him in Congress then and he would likely be replaced by an establishment stooge.

(9,289 posts)If she was, it would probably be a consequence of some stupid application of the law, and I would be sympathetic to Clinton's predicament. Of course, speaking very hypothetically and being a Sanders supporter, I think getting him on the ticket would be great.

(17,064 posts)I think he has far more integrity than that. There's also the issue of becoming entangled in 4 years of Clinton drama and scandals that's unappealing to him.

Despite the Clinton supporters spin, the FBI investigation is serious. It is irrelevant if the server was hacked or not (and trust me it is easier than most know to cover your tracks if it was hacked!). Classified information and likely now passwords were shared inappropriately. The IT guy she hired has cut a deal. That is never good for those who hired him.
Let it run its course. Sanders will stand in until the convention. If she is indicted and drops out, Sanders takes the nomination. If she isn't, we see how the primary finishes out.

(24,979 posts)her e-mails are a distraction. I'd add a) to sabotage the favorite (so far) and b) to suck the air away from any hint of a real issue affecting the lives of the people.
I think an indictment is unlikely (and a false hope for those of us who want to prevent the corporatist presidency of Clinton II). But this will be never ending. The media and Republicans have a formula they've run many times before. They've been running for what feels like 10 years with the "Bengazi" bullshit already. Like Blll Clinton's affairs and Whitewater, bullshit scandals that may have some basis but serve to hide the real crimes, which are bipartisan (e.g., banking deregulation to set up the epic frauds of the 2000s, or the bloody destruction of the nation of Libya, to name one in which Clinton played a heavy role).
