(15,369 posts)Hillary is still well on track to win. If anything, the levels of toxicity that have been seen on DU in recent days have caused quite a few fence-sitters to jump into the HRC camp. Karma is indeed a b****! Backlash was inevitable and that backlash is growing, although that "revolution" will likely be silent on DU for various reasons.
No matter how obnoxiously some behave here and no matter how frequent and inaccurate their posts, I will NEVER EVER NOT vote for the Dem candidate in the GE.
Anyone who even hesitates to do so needs to remember exactly what the alternative is. It's too awful even to contemplate.

(1,377 posts)thing back in 2008 primaries talking about how Obama was going to lose because some supposed group of black Obama supporters where on the internet saying if don't vote Obama you are racist. Odd how that same type of message is being shoved down our face now but it is now Bernie supporters. Odd how both primaries have same candidate running? At least she learned from 2008 to switch that meme around and get a well know supporters to say it. Special place in hell indeed.

Just stop it.

(30,481 posts)Many of Sanders supporters do not represent him. They aren't even close to him ideologically. Try to keep your eyes on what Sanders himself is saying. Including him understanding his supporters are currently his worst enemy. I have a lot of issues with Sanders himself that I have highlighted here. He is worlds better than any of the republicans.
Don't let the hate, anger, and deception being brought here daily sway your thoughts on the bigger picture. They are a side note.
Still, I get you point and it's real.
Clinton currently has the momentum and I don't think you will have to concern yourself with this anyway. We are looking really good and it is becoming clear that Clinton is the people's progressive choice.

(61,622 posts)I think it's important for the progressives on this and other boards to bond together against internet bullies who seek to divide us.
There are many legitimate reasons to disagree with both Democratic candidates, and plenty of space to argue in good faith. I'm down with that.
When I see bullying, racism, and bigotry, I know that the people behind it are not on the side of progressivism. I'm gonna call them trolls. And I'm not going to let them influence me or my vote.

(27,813 posts)Why is he attracting some of these people? However, one of my main issues is that he has spent decades trashing the Democratic party and now he wants to use all our good work, our infrastructure, many of the things we've worked for, to advance his cause. He could have won in Vermont running as a Democrat, but didn't. He's even turned down Democratic nominations a couple of times. When his supporters were caught stealing data, his first instinct was to sue the DNC. Now, my one vote may not count for much, but if someone was looking for ways to deliberately push my buttons, he's found a few of them (not to mention being lectured at about feminism and how I can't possibly be a feminist just by voting for the female candidate).
Of course I would vote for Sanders, I'd have no qualms about it ideologically, but I wouldn't expect a very effective presidency from someone who seems to be setting out to alienate people like me.

(30,481 posts)Million dollar question and I believe it has multiple answers. Many Paul supporters, like H A Goodman, care about economics only. They believe Sanders will not have any impact in many areas but do believe he will create chaos. They believe that is necessary for them to get traction. They know Sanders will have zero success with his healthcare plans so simply aren't worried about them. A founding thought of current libertarian economic ideas is that they stand no chance without destruction of the current system.
I believe their are other small groups that believe we must go down in order to be built up in their eyes. They wrongly see Sanders as a way to get to their means. Most groups that are more fringe feel this way. That everyone will simply recognize their brilliance once it all collapses. They couldn't be more wrong but when you are an outlier in the country it is about all you can hang your hat on.

(27,813 posts)I'd also guess that in the San Juan Islands of Washington State, where I spend a lot of time, they'll go for Bernie Sanders. They also, respectively, went for Nader, Ross Perot, and, I think, John Anderson (a forgotten culprit in the Reagan debacle). So of course there is that element, but I'm also thinking of the young tech workers who love him so much. I seriously believe their concept of income equality means the difference between working long hours for a salary of $120,000 and what Bill Gates is worth. But they lecture me, who will never earn that much.

It's just sort of funny that last contested cycle it was Hillary you just would not vote for, line in the sand. Now you adore her and draw that same line for Bernie. Template style politics.
At any rate, every cycle you are thinking about not casting a vote for the nominee if it is Hillary of if it isn't, depending. What could I possibly derive from that other than you have a 'take my ball and go' theme that repeats?
