I know! She would never lie.
DWS tries to defend Hillary's lie but Andrea is not having it.

In fact, Schultz seemed downright testy as she asked host Andrea Mitchell, Why on earth are we talking about this?
On Fridays Andrea Mitchell Reports, Mitchell played a video of Clinton retelling the story of how she tried to join the Marine Corps in the 1970s and was rejected.
Mitchell said the story doesnt track with Clintons biography and even pointed out that Washington Post fact checker, Glenn Kessler, gave the claim two pinocchios.
Mitchell tried to reconcile Clintons claim with the fact that she was very anti-war at that time, and presented the question to Wasserman Schultz.
Washington Post didn't buy her lie either

Neither did the NYT
http://www.nytimes.com/1994/06/15/us/hillary-clinton-says-she-once-tried-to-be-marine.html
The Marines themselves also questioned it, but did not go as far as calling it a lie

(8,541 posts)It's just that Hillary wasn't pushing that narrative when she tells this story. There's also the fact that at the time this supposedly happened. The usmc were actively looking for women with Hillary's skill set . Not to mention the incentive for recruiters to do their jobs.
I really don't care about this tho.

Agreed not many until recently thanks to the combat restriction, but it wasn't "closed".

(39,215 posts)issue had something to do with how involved with Bill she was at the time. Look up the dates.
Divernan
(15,480 posts)There's always a kernel of truth in her stories. She did land in Bosnia. She just got the sniper part wrong. I think she did go and talk to a recruiter. The issue is why?
I mean, she'd gone down there to marry him. She was handed a job at the Arkansas Law School because of her connections with him (cause brand new lawyers with no experience as licensed attorneys don't get hired to teach at law schools - she never even made law review! and no advanced law degree). She'd put all her eggs in one basket, and HRC was never one to admit a mistake (which is why she hid for decades, even from her closest friends, that she'd failed the D.C. bar exam). I think the whole episode could have been, "I'll call off the wedding, run away from you & join the military, and how will you explain that to everyone? Unless you promise me you'll never do (fill in the blank) again. And never having passed the D.C. bar exam, she couldn't go back there. Wonder if she even told Bill about that at the time.
Now what could he have done? Hmmmmm?
Like I've always said, Shakespeare could write a three play tragedy/history about those 2.
In the earlier discussion of this incident some months back, there was a quote from Bill laughing about how she'd gone to a recruiting office.
Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, repeated the story swapping the Marines for the Army while addressing a crowd in Columbus, Ind., in April 2008, according to an ABC News report.
Possibly to avoid being one-upped on Indiana national security politics, former President Bill Clinton told a crowd in Columbus, Indiana, today that his wife had tried to join the Army.Listen to an excerpt HERE. "I remember when we were young, right out of law school, she went down and tried to join the Army and they said 'Your eyes are so bad, nobody will take you,'" he said, after heralding her record on issues of concern to the military, such as body armor and access to health care.I assume this is a version of the "Hillary Clinton tried to join the Marines" anecdote that then-First Lady Clinton told in 1994 that we wondered about since it's a story she never seems to have told again. The original story was that in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 1975, Hillary walked into a local Marines recruiting office. The Marine recruiter looked at her, she recalled, and asked how old she was. Twenty-seven, she said."He looked at me, and in those days that was before I learned how to wear contact lenses," Sen. Clinton told a crowd of women veterans in 1994. "I had these really thick glasses on. He said, How bad's your eyesight?' I said, It's pretty bad.' Finally said to me, he said, 'You're too old. You can't see. And you're a woman. But maybe the dogs would take you.'" "Dogs" being a reference to the Army.)Perhaps she did so -- and hence Bill Clinton's Army story today?Or maybe he's conflating the two stories?(Add that Bosnian sniper fire, and you might have something there that Julia Roberts would want to option.)-- jpt
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/04/bill-clinton-sa.html
The Washington Post tracked down some of Clintons friends who confirmed that she approached the recruiter but said she did not actually want to enlist.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2015/11/12/hillary-clintons-claim-that-she-tried-to-join-the-marines/

(3,017 posts)Because in the 2015 version she told the small group in New Hampshire on the video, there was no mention of eyesight issues.
This is exactly the kind of stuff that got Brian Williams a 6 month suspension from NBC followed by a demotion to MSNBC. And it is very Trump like. Narcissists just can't stop with the puffery to build themselves up. I've known plenty of people like that in real life. They know they're full of it, they know you know they're full of it, so they start prefacing their remarks with "now this is no lie....." or "I'm telling you the truth now...."

(14,449 posts)Every recruit gets a physical and the doctor would disqualify her if need be. I can't imagine a non medical person making a judgement on seeing her alone. I went through the process and recruiters gather paperwork and that's it. The experts qualify or disqualify candidates.

(29,798 posts)I can't believe I'm saying this but I believe Hillary. At that time the age cut-off for enlistment by those who had not previously served in the military was 27.
I do not accept the proposition that her experience demonstrates sexist attitudes or structure, even though I agree those problems were real.
Seems to me to be more a case of political resume inflation than anything else.
I'm far more interested in the access which the $153,000,000 that she and Bill have taken in speaking fees will buy.

(8,175 posts)You have no way to prove or disprove if she did this, or why. All you can do is try to create a smear because why? You are trying to win new members to the team? You are trying to change anyone's mind?
Because she doesn't have enough of a legit problem with her current and historical stance on issues? That is what we should be addressing, not petty stuff like this.
This is just embarrassing to team Sanders, and I'm a proud Sander's supporter. Not so much of some of what I see from his team.
You know what is going to help Bernie win? Pushing the good things about Bernie. Pushing truth about real important issues.

(449 posts)Seems most likely something she said just to bolster support among military members. Couple that with the fact that a lot of her friends from that period were surprised when she recently said she tried joining the Marines and you have a story that just doesn't quite add up.
I hope America wakes up and keeps her from the presidency. I have no reason to believe she cares about the 'lesser' people and would assume she's take the side of a servaillence-state. That's be bad for freedom lovers and bad for those that like seeing dems get elected to the House and Senate.
