2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumNebraska District 20 Caucus
From Beveridge Middle School in an overflowing Auditorium. We had to sit by the undecideds because there was no where to sit in the Bernie section. I convinced two people by talking about TPP and Citizens United. Almost all the rest of the undecideds broke for Hillary. It was 463-258 in Favor of Bernie after 1st count. Then they announced Hillary had won absentees by 228-48. Yikes! The Hillary speaker was very persuasive and prepared. The Bernie speaker looked like he didn't know he was going to speak. He talked about stopping the 'Trans Pacific Pipeline' for instance. Final count was 527-511 for Bernie. Much closer than I would have thought for suburban Omaha.

(24,689 posts)This one could be close which is basically a loss for Bernie since he needs some big wins to catch up and change the momentum.
Thanks for the update!

Here are the results I've heard from others who already caucused in NE. Sorry, not sure what LDs or precincts some of these are in. I'll keep updating as I hear more.

Hooper, NE: 44 Bernie, Hillary 22
Metro South Campus: Bernie 313, Hillary 250

District 8: Bernie 954, Hillary 484
Beals Elementary: Bernie 872, Hillary 356
LD 13 at Nathan Hale: No numbers, but a report that HRC won.

(9,326 posts)Interesting how your dist 20 count is slightly different than what I had. The Jist is the same though. If districts similar to the Buffalo county District all go about the same, Hillary is losing big time.

(719 posts)Here are the correct numbers for LD 12:
Bernie 420 12 delegates.
Hillary 297 8 delegates.
LD 5(Metro South CC) is a heavily Latino district. Bernie's win there is a great sign. The big win in LD 8(Benson High School) also makes me optimistic, but your list includes few African American voters at this point.
TheFarseer
(9,326 posts)Those should be heavily African American. Is HRC winning 13 winning 13 surprising? I'm not familiar with that area, except I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of older people live there.

(719 posts)Looking at the map, it includes Florence, which is mostly working class AA but still mixed, and some outlying, semi-rural areas of the city that are more affluent and white(and probably Republican).

(6,551 posts)I wish we had that option in Colorado. However, I'm glad that this is the last caucus for Colorado. It's too inefficient, undemocratic (what about people employed at night?), and just too unwieldly with large crowds.

(719 posts)This person was probably picked before the caucus, though there is still a formal nomination process at the caucus itself. At our caucus, I was allowed to view and count the absentee ballots as a Bernie captain, though they were not originals. It seems pretty clear that Hillary's team worked hard at getting people to vote absentee in Nebraska. I suspected this after talking to some Hillary supporters while canvassing for Bernie. It seems like a smart strategy, but they may have lost a few undecided voters at the caucuses because of it.

(719 posts)Do you mean take a picture of every ballot? That would have taken a very long time and pissed everyone off. What I saw were copies. The originals were scanned into the party's database I assume. If the campaign officers want to verify all absentee ballots, they can take it up with the party.

So if you encounter large HRC surrogate votes this time, what can you do to verify?
Is the Dem state party trustworthy?
