I am catholic, kids go to catholic school but no place in government
waste of a question just like the idiot reporter who asked dubya how does his belief in God give him strength (something like that) minutes before he gave the order to bomb Baghdad

If it is relevant to the voters, is it not a relevant question? If some voters prefer a candidate who professes their faith, that's just the nature of democracy is it not?

(1,701 posts)The first is that it is an invitation to sanctimonious statements. The second, and far more important one, is that it comes perilously close to suggesting that a religious litmus test is appropriate for a candidate for office, whereas the Constitution expressly forbids that (thank God! Pun intended). We all know that there are people who profess to be religious and are hateful and arrogant people, and people who are not religious who are kind and humble.
I think there is way too much religiosity in our politics and it masks a multitude of sins. This is not an indictment of religion, per se, just an observation about its effect on politics in recent decades.
Professions of faith are easy to make, and almost never indicative of a candidate's actual policies.
