2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumFor Hillary's devoted fans:
Why Hillary Could Be a Lot More Vulnerable to Trump Than BernieThe article above logically points out problems:
She will have enormous difficulty defending herself on three key issues: trade, war and Wall Street.
Both the companies and the unions involved constantly blame unfair trade with China, Mexico and other low-wage countries. It's not clear if Team Hillary realizes the full extent and intensity of this day-to-day education and agitation against unfair trade done by the very unions that will eventually support her. It's relentless and has set up the rank and file to listen, if not lean, toward Trump.
..........................................................................................................
She looks up to Kissinger because she also believes the U.S. should lead the world, even if we'll be engaged in endless interventions and wars. That's the price of being the world's only superpower.
Trump sounds like a 1960s peacenik in comparison
..........................................................................................................
However, her attachments to Wall Street are another matter. There's no way to dance around them.
What was she thinking when taking in over $11 million for speeches to Wall Street firms and other corporate elites?

Please, Hillary fans, reconsider before it is too late.

(11,631 posts)As many Bernie supporters have posted here in the past weeks she needs them back in the fold for the general. Hillary can't go nuclear on Bernie for the same reason he can't do the same to her. They both need the other one's voters to win in the fall. Ripping apart the democratic party at this stage does no-one any good.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)The claim is there are oh-so-simple and easy attacks that can cause a state that overwhelmingly voted for Sanders to suddenly oppose him.
You don't have to "go nuclear" to use those attacks. You don't even have to use all of them. If there is such a large variety of effective attacks, then Clinton could find some that she could use.
And she's not.

(11,631 posts)Call it nuclear or what the hell ever the point is Clinton is playing for the general election at this point and pissing off Sanders supporters serves no purpose.

(27,985 posts)I don't think she's perfect. I understand she has vulnerabilities and I freely admit she makes gaffes. But I still support her. Not blindly. In fact, I do so with my eyes wide open. There are frankly very few (ok, one) politicians with whom I am in total or near agreement.
Turning this primary into a cult of personality "fan" or "foe" shit is divisive.
I support both of our candidates and will proudly vote for the nominee in November. But I am not a "fan" of either.
I am a fan of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. And the Violent Femmes (who have a new album out, by the way!)

(27,985 posts)They also brought 6 drummers out and they fucking JAMMED for like 10 minutes during Black Girls.
I am kinda bummed about their drummer issues. Brian Viglione was fucking AMAZING - I got to see him play with them and meet him and Brian Ritchie last summer. But now he's ventured off with his beautiful wife.
Anyhoo... go hill!

Although, come to think of it, the lady definitely seems more like a "fan" than does the gentleman!

To be sure, though it is not so nearly as important as the tremendous distinction between "fan" and "supporter," did you manage to find the time to examine the article, and if so, do you have any thoughts you would like to share on:
Take a look at these head-to-head general election average of polls since February 10, 2016 (from Real Clear Politics):
Hillary loses to Cruz by 1.5 percentage points. Bernie wins by 9.7 points
Hillary loses to Rubio by 5 points. Bernie wins by 3.3 points.
Hillary manages to beat Trump by 3.4 points. Bernie wins by 8 points.
If you did, how well do all these points go together with Hillary's 54% disapproval rating?
Do let us all know, as we definitely don't want to lose in November!

(5,636 posts)Sanders is ideological pure and consistent, a great strength that makes him a wonderful candidate.
Hillary, on the other hand, is just a politician. However, a victory for her would be a victory for women, an inspiration to little girls, a victory for the traditional liberal wing of the Democratic Party, someone who will engage the world for the sake of human rights (she is not an isolationist), someone who has the kinds of connections to apply pressure on Congress to compromise, and someone who commands far more respect than Bernie of minorities. Although you might feel that minorities should support Bernie, the fact is that many of them believe their interests would be better served by someone like Hillary. That doesn't make them right, but it doesn't make them wrong either. I also think many minorities identify with Hillary because of all the attacks on her over the years. They feels she knows more than most about being ostracized and isolated.
